Through science fiction and fantasy books and magazines (such as Heavy Metal) Rob became interested in a very diverse group of American and European modern fantasy ‘masters’. He started experimenting with art using different techniques and methods in an attempt to mimic the artists various styles.
Other cultural influences include classic Universal monsters, science fiction and fantasy movies, pop art, underground comix and traditional comic book art.
Rob is a freelance artist currently seeking a steady position within the video game or comic book industry.
He offers an eclectic mix and variety of art styles. A primarily self-taught artist, his education has included courses in drawing and painting techniques. Over the past 6 years he has focused on CG art using several 2D and 3D software programs including 3ds Max, Photoshop, Vue and Poser. He would eventually like to incorporate 2.5D programs such as Z Brush or Mudbox into his artistic workflow.
Rob has produced storyboard work, product design, and concept artwork for his clients. His SF/Fantasy creations have been featured on many websites, in books, comics, magazines and a DVD cover. His artwork has also been displayed in Chicago’s Echo Gallery and he has received International art awards in Hollywood, California and Brisbane, Australia.
My views regarding CG art: Since there are so many great artists all over the world developing new techniques, sharing diverse ideas and offering valuable critiques so much easier and faster than ever before, I feel that we have truly entered a ‘digital renaissance’ and that the best CG artwork is yet to come.
