Smaller surface area can be a pet peeve, but to just avoid that I would recommend getting the 'large' size wacom bamboo.  I have one and it is one of the best buys I've ever done.

Dude you've been like hitting all of my favorites with these past posts.  You use a tablet right?  Never really seen cross-hatching with one of those.

Cool, em.  I've noticed you never use outlines in the portraits, it's always like a soft line of shadow to define the jaw.  You may have answered this already, but about how long do you spend on these sketches?
