• Re: Self induced art block...

First thing ... stop listening to those little self-doubt voices! I'm convinced that we do more to hold ourselves back than anyone else possibly can. Second ... try to divorce yourself from the work once it's done. I know how hard this is. But if you're looking back over something it can be easy to focus on you rather than on the ...

  • Re: Congrats to our Cousins over the pond for a historic Win!

It's very interesting to me to see the world welcoming president-elect Obama. My reason is that among the journalists here in this country, there is a general concensus that nobody is really sure where Obama stands in regards to the role that the US should play in world politics. He is very young and inexperienced when it comes to the world ...

  • Re: how come no one comments on galleries?

When most of my creative energy was going into writing, I was part of an online writers workshop. There we were able to submit up to 3 pieces "for free". After that, we had to earn the right to post additional writing samples by offering critiques of other people's writing. And things like "I like this" or "Needs ...

  • Re: How do you know when you're done?

Thanks everyone for the input. It's been interesting to see that people feel a lot like me. :) Trying to figure out when that "One more thing..." is something that the image needs or is just trying to be too critical / pefect seems to be a common struggle. The other thing I think now and then looking over older work is ...

  • Re: What is wrong and what is right?

Conscious Bob: jonnyray: If your goal is to create images that speak to you and reflect your thoughts and feelings, then toss the rulebook out the window, paint three random lines on a canvas and frame it and call it "Art". Wow, is that all I have to do to make it as modern artist? You've opened my eyes to this massive subject, ...

  • Re: How do you know when you're done?

It does make some sense. :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I use some techniques like flipping an image left to right to spot flaws I don't see when I've looked at something for "too long". :) Also letting it sit for a few days or up to a couple weeks can help me get some perspective as well. Sometimes I think I can be too ...

  • Re: What is wrong and what is right?

The human body generally falls within certain parameters when it comes to the proportions of the body parts, areas of mass, and flexibilty of joints. Certainly you can point to exceptions, and an artist is free to break these "rules" if they so choose. But it seems that any artist should at least know what they are. An art student who is ...

  • How do you know when you're done?

I've been doing 3D based artwork as a hobby in my spare time for almost 2 years now. I don't have a single image that I look at without seeing something that could be improved if I wanted to spend the time. I'm curious how people decide that a piece is "final". Is it ever really final or do you just stop ...
