All excellent, Pertwee is my fave, so much depth and life, his emotion is captured.

It's worth experimenting. Duplicate your layer and get a hard round brush, set the mode to colour. Have opacity at 100 percent, flow at about 6. Splash away with a base colour, then create a new layer, set it to overlay, and splash some more of the same colour on top, adjust the layer opacity. Worth a bash for your excellent greyscale painting.

I checked out his site, can't see the painted examples but he doeshave the "upturned wineglass" kind of shape to his figures. I must admit that sticking to this painterly approach feels more natural, like sketching with colour and values. Thanks for your comments again.
