Here's the first illustration of 2008
The concept behind the work is the metaphor of Light vs Darkness, and I
tried to illustrate it with a ‘double pair’ – the sunset versus the
upcoming night, but also the tranquil, green land versus the scary,
rough mountains. The image was created using Matte Painting techniques
only; I hope you’ll like it!
PS:Also done for the upcoming Expose 6

Drakko - at the edge of the Realm
<media:text type="html">

Drakko - at the edge of the Realm

It was the most complex project I've ever worked on and also it was a lot of fun and great time. I've started with a composition sketch, following the golden rule, then I built the basic land according to the sketch. After that I've created some of the foreground elements in vue, added the temple and lastly created special and dynamic effects like that rainbow for instance. I'm very proud of the result and in either case it will be a nice addition to my portofolio;

I'm going to make a walkthrough soon, detailing everything from the sketch to the final so if you are interested stand by for an edit :)

Thanks in advance for your comments!
Lost World - Temple of Nature
<media:text type="html">

Lost World - Temple of Nature
I did this image as a personal project, for d'artiste Matte Painting 2, and gave my best for it. The idea was to create a mystical mood, like in the forests from north Japan, with no human trace (wild).
Edit: Since I got asked often - the image was done using a mix of painting, 3d and reference (matte painting)
Most of the detail, water, light and clouds are hand painted or using a
custom tree brush; The base of the image is a 3D render, while the big
pine tree in the right foreground is a photo reference.

Hokkaido
<media:text type="html">

Hokkaido
