The Wild

I started this back in the summer as a “learning experience” piece for Painter…then I overloaded myself with so much work that I had no time to sit down and finish it until now. It was designed to be more expressive so I could explore the different brush options that Painter has and learn how to mix those tools with Photoshop to my advantage. I wish I’d done this sooner; I adore how the two programs complement each other and my process has been sped up considerably.

The colors are a bit bolder than I normally go for. Trying to expand my horizons and all that. I had a blast with those skintones. :]

Over at Pixelbrush we had a little challenge to reinterpret each other’s artwork…I chose to reinterpret Tascha Roeoesli’s “Wax Dragon”. It’s one of my all-time favorite digital paintings, so I was thrilled to have the chance to do something based off of it.

Done pretty quickly… so it’s not quite as polished as it could have been, but it felt good to do something for myself again!

Been working on this on and off for the past couple of weeks, mucking around with color and detailing. It started out as a doodle but I liked the orange and white combination so much that I've gone and redesigned one of my races to fit it.

She is Ahsdri'ehl, ruler of the Ahn; a mythological figurehead of greed and corruption. It is told that she stands on a ruined staircase beyond the wastelands, enticing men to cross into the storm beyond. She promises wealth, power, glory—but all who follow her find nothing but their own doom.

This was inspired by and partially referenced from a photoshoot of the vocalist of Rentrer en Soi, one of my favorite bands, found in a fashion magazine. I wanted to transform the character in the photo into my own image, because the design reminded me of my own Saedhj. Did a lot of experimentation with color, light, and depth with this one.
