Originally created as my website’s “mascot”?! Whatever cheesy ideas I had in my mind, eventually turned into a character that I like stylistically and personality wise isn’t bad either. The final piece was entirely made in Photoshop - in earlier versions I tried Zbrush but never quite got it right. As far as concept goes, I was looking for a likable character that stylistically was a bit different from what I usually go for.

This is my entry for the Strange Behavior CG Challenge. Hope you guys enjoy it:

Have you ever had the urge to listen to some old tango tunes while wearing a weird skull costume and wrecking havoc on everything in your vicinity? Apparently this pour soul did…

I think we’ve all felt this same urge in the past few months – Don’t try to hide, ‘cause I know you know you’ve felt it!!! Haha - I knew it! This urge to destroy….to demolish…. to act violently… to tear down… to kill? Yes, I can tell you exactly when you’ll behave like this – The next time you sit down in your studio/desk/whatever and are prepared to create a masterpiece pay close attention to your behavior. Creatively focused, hand gliding through the piece, colors mixed to perfection - yet unexpectedly you realize that the wonderfully foreshortened “Da Vinci-esque” hand that you envisioned is looking more like sharpened sausage pencils lit from the inside - Suddenly it all hits you. The rage, the anger! The creative juices stop flowing and are replaced by adrenaline – savage adrenaline. You grab the red paint and delicately start stabbing at the painting with all you’ve got and eventually realize that you’ve wasted 5 hours of your life. Angrily, you kick the canvas around while bouncing off the walls, and eventually you see a lovely costume you bought years ago and realize that it fits your current personality. And guess what? Old Tango music doesn’t sound bad either! So there it is, what to expect on your next venture into painting your ultimate vision.

The Enchantment of la Siguanaba

This is a personal piece exploring one of the myths from Guatemalan culture. This is the tale of La Siguanaba, a beautiful woman cursed with the head of a beast. She enchants drunks and weak men with her beauty, ultimately leading them to pay for her curse with they're souls. Pretty sad, but its all good! This piece is mostly a Photoshop piece, with the majority of the sketches all the way through the final done with a basic flat brush. I used a bit of painter to create some of the gunk and texture, but again, it was all Photoshop. There is a definite inspiration from Andrew Jones’s graphical style and it is mostly present in my earlier sketches for this piece, showing a lot of chaos and swirly creations – eventually it got a bit controlled and more focused.

Photoshop. A slight change in style and color palette. I explored a softer and fuzzier technique with this piece. It started out a bit rougher and with a lot of the brushwork showing up. I eventually went for a softer look, but as you can see, its still pretty rough. I guess I gotta work on my "smoothness". Please comment!

Another piece based on exploration. I tried to use less and less of the Photoshop brushes for this piece and focus mainly on basic line-work. I like how the composition for the piece ended but not sure if the style is right what do you guys think? crits and suggestions are very welcome.

Winter and The Elephants

Photoshop/Painter. This concept is basically an exploration of my matte skills. I got a long way to go still, but I'm satisfied with how this one ended. I started with a snowy river picture and some elephant pictures. Mixed them both together and added a few extra elements to the mix. Not really the greatest technical piece, but as an exploration piece I think it came out nice. Comments and crits are very welcome!

Pain & Suffering

Image created in Photoshop. This is a personal image that tries to explore the idea of pain. It originated as a brush test (I had created a few custom brushes in Painter and Photoshop and wanted to test them out) which eventually formed into the foundation shapes of this macabre piece. I had also left it unfinished and pretty rough for a couple of months and just recently added the finishing touches. It definitely draws a lot from Michael Hussar’s color palette.
