First in a series of pictures about the Canary Islands. Original natives from the Canaries, known as "Guanches" had an animistic religion and like american indians, they lauded the spirits of nature and so, i dedicated a picture to each island and the most relevant spirit of that island.

This is the Spirit of the Sea representing Fuerteventura. It is a mermaid with the tail of a "vieja", a typical fish from the island.

 This image is a combination of painting and photo. You can't appreciate it here, but the finished image has an oil painting texture feel. The tail is real, created by artist Carlos Nieves.
