This painting was made for an article on values for ImagineFX :-)

There's also a looong movie showing how I painted this piece on the dvd that comes with this issue. This is the first time I've been recording whilst working, and it was a bit wonky. Guess I need a faster computer to be able to do this without noticing any lag, heh.

Anyways, just another of my tentacle pieces. The guy in question is a colleague and friend of mine named Trond, posing with his Cthulhu spawn pet. ;-)

Painted using Photoshop CS2 in about 4-5 hours.

T-shirt illustration done for Spiral Direct. Great fun to do!
The background is black because the illustration are to be used on black clothing only, and it is 2-colour prints, which means white and red colour only on black background. Art directed by their lead artist, which was a nice experience
Reference used for the pose. Painted using Photoshop CS2 with a Wacom Intuos tablet, as usual.

The idea for this painting has been laying inside the back of the head for quite a while, and I was basically just looking for a excuse to make it. Originally, it was ment for an art competition, but since I didn’t go there after all the painting wasn’t used for anything special.

I’d like to dedicate this piece to our recently ended Call of Cthulhu pen & paper roleplaying campaign. We kinda scewed it all up getting all tricked by Nyarlathotep! That *** old God fooled the party through a portal and they got all thrown back to ancient Egypt, except me who barely manage to jump back out before it closed behind me. Actually the others got off better than me as the world kinda ended shortly after this and I was still stuck in 1929. Oh well, it was fun for as long as it lasted…

This scene is not really from that session at all, but It’s inspired by the setting and the monsters you can find in this setting. The dude on the picture is referenced from a photo I shot of a childhood friend of mine. I think he looks cool on the picture, giving it all even though he doesn’t really stand a chance against mr. tentacle

Not that this really has anything to do with Call of Cthulhu, but I guess that I have been influenced from the monsters of that setting. There is just something with tentacle monsters that appeals to me and not in an Asian manga kind of way (please make a note of that )

I was not sure if I was to dress the girl or not, but after a few tests, it simply looks a lot cleaner and better this way.

Painted using Photoshop with a Wacom tablet over a long period of time (painted one or two hour every now and then. Reference from different places within my own collection.

This is the cover illustration and internal chapter sketches for the book “The Last Incarnation” by fantasy and science fiction author Joseph Giunta.

Done from scratch using Photoshop CS2 and a Wacom Intuos 2 tablet.
Painted august 2006.

Darkfall conceptual painting

I started this piece quite a while ago at work. It’s simply a conceptual 2D painting that was made for no other purpose to experiment and for use in misc. relation from PR to decoration etc. The picture shows 3 of the totally 6 races of Darkfall, the MMORPG-game I am working on fulltime. The girl is an elf, the guy in the middle is a human, and the short dude is obviously a dwarf. Some of the elements are based on 3D objects made by other members of Aventurine S.A.

All elements are copyrighted Aventurine S.A. and can not be used in any other purpose.

Painted using Photoshop CS2 with a Wacom Intuos tablet, and some elements based on 3D renders of actual in game objects/environments.

I’ve been working on this piece on and off for quite a while because of extra projects, and when I finally got a couple of days in-between things, I decided to wrap this piece up so that I can fully focus on my other projects for the upcoming weeks. I had some other plans for this piece to start off with, but it didn’t work out as I hoped as I would have to move away from the monochromatic look, which I kind of like.

The idea for this one started out more comic than it turned out to be. I had something else planned out for the 2 characters in the scene, but I soon figured out that I had to let the chick and the cat interact to make this piece work. I guess there are not other back story to this than I simply enjoy making pieces like this. I also wanted to experiment a little with volumetric light directed from the top in the scene.

In addition to a big interview for the Future Publishing magazine, Imagine FX, I made this painting for a workshop for the same issue. The reference model is Kjetil, a colleague and friend of mine. The workshop is explaining down to detail on how to make digital fantasy-themed portrait.

This painting was more or less a test, so I decided to keep it simple. I like simple composition anyway.
I don’t have a story behind this piece, other than it has got a more modern fantasy theme than normal from me. Perhaps this shows a cheerleader doing her side-job?

After playing a Dungeons & Dragons role playing campaign for quite a while now (…and it looks as if we’re upcoming dragon-riders, yay!), I got all into “dragon-mode”, and wanted to make a pretty standard high fantasy painting. Again, I show that I have a passion for the old fantasy masters, and I simply love painting things like this.

Call of cthulhu, dunwich horror game cover

This is the cover box illustration for Fantasy Flight Games' expansion of their table top / board game named Call of Cthulhu, Arkham Horror, which is based on the worlds of renowned horror master H.P. Lovecraft.

My girlfriend, Natascha Roeoesli, made the conceptual sketch, so this is the first painting we’ve worked together on.

I’ve been fascinated by the pirate setting for as long as I can remember, and I simply had the urge to do something piratey.

Painted from scratch during a few evenings, using Photoshop with a Wacom tablet. This time I was experiencing using some noise values, which I think makes it look less computer drawn (easier to spot on close-ups).

I painted this on and off during a periode of time when I had a lot of other projects, so I don’t know exactly how much time I’ve spent on this, but a little more than usual.
