At Dusk We Run

From the deep forests of the pagan North, down across the slopes of civilization. As the night draws near our hearts begin to pound. The wilderness in us yearns for the hunt. We move through the green pastures of your tamed beasts. We can still our blood no longer. So we run. We speed towards the fires of your homes. We urge for the screams of night. We run – hungry for the kill. Darkness is coming. The night is ours.

I Evigendt - bookcover illo

This is the front illustration of a book-cover I finished recently (I also did the design).
I didn't read the book but it has a comical tone, and is directed at a younger audience, but supposedly works well even for grown-ups. (The Harry Potter sort of thing...)
It is called I Evigendt, was written by Siri Fjellvang Tobiassen, and will be published by Kolibri this year.

This is the book cover illustration of Alanay part 2 - Drakarna vaknar (Dragons Awaken). Originally Norweigan, and written by Iselin Alvestad, the book is translated and published in Sweden by 'Tiden'. It is aimed at readers between 8-12 and will be released in September this year.

The Colossus From Hell

No one could say there hadn’t been signs of warning. Ever since the new skyscraper was raised the city had changed. The vast increase in reports of missing persons should by itself have been enough for the authorities to take action. The Dagherion Tower – instantly nicknamed the Devil’s Building, and later The Dark Cloister - had not only been the centre of many weird events and extraordinary sounds, but had also literally emptied every block surrounding it, causing shops to close and firms to look for office space elsewhere.

As usual though, the cases were sloppily investigated, and the forces put in place to uphold order were too busy elsewhere. But then again, what could they have done? After all, the last department with knowledge enough to deal with the matter closed down in 1890. Necromancy and Demonology simply did not exist in contemporary consciousness. Not until right now.

They had managed to summon an Ancient One. A Ghartharian Rox, the most massive of furies in the nine levels of Hell had arrived. Everyone beheld it with utter presence. Fear was the name of the day. We all stood still and stared at what was left of reality, and we all knew; there would be no memories of this day.

The Suthurian Predator - The top of the Galactic foodchain.
Equipped with numerous unearthly senses and the power to warp energies and matter,
this creature will devour you at will.
It can sense electrical thought-patterns in victim lifeforms,
and prefers to aim in on high levels of 'hunter instinct' and 'intelligence',
thus ridding the universe of its competition.

A simple form and some brush-generated textures set this one spinning. Photoshop, approx 12 hours.

The Dragons of Water

THE DRAGONS OF WATER
At the end of the Dark Ages – when the cities of mankind grew and the population of Europe had recovered from the Plague – the Dragons went into hiding. That proud race, which had sprung from the volcanoes of the Old World, bringing with them the fires of the earth, now sought the security of the gloomy waters. They swam safely along bottoms of the big rivers, and lay sleeping in the depths of great lakes. There they were transformed. Their scales became softer, and their bodies turned ever more aquatic. When the renaissance era came to an end the Dragons were one with the Element of Water. So fishlike were they, that only a few of them could leave the waters for an exerting last flight under the shelter of night. What those few saw in the mirroring surface of their watery refuge, was a vague image of their former glory.
What is that creature that follows your bait up from the lakes and rivers, whose scales gleam brilliantly in the sunlight, and who wriggles despairingly at the contact with the chill morning air? Some say that the dinosaurs turned into birds. Do you know what happened to the Dragons?

Concept: The Khan-OR

When planet X55-Benthula (later called The Second Earth) was inhabited in 3915 BC, the adventurous among the race of Man was instantly drawn to it. Once more there were great ranges of mountains to be scaled, and again one could venture into the depths of uncharted jungles.

The problem was, which was soon discovered, the native creatures were making the escapades far more exciting than most had ever hoped for.

The adult Khan-Or lives in the higher altitudes of many Benthula ranges. It has the ability to freeze itself into a hibernating sleep, (usually clinging to the shadowy side of mountain peaks), and is in need of little food, once mature. Its supreme sense of smell alerts it to every scent and movement in the nearby mountains. When awake the Khan-Or warms up very fast by generating extreme heat inside belly. It has developed an interesting technique of hunting, by sliding down the mountainsides on its abdomen (often upon the comparatively even glaciers). This melts the top layer of glacier ice and gives the creature an incredible speed, which it can stop, if necessary, by flipping its feet downwards and driving its sharp claws and tail into the ice.

The scene portrayes the elf Ecthelion as he meets the Lord of Balrogs, Gothmog, in city of Gondolin... which is under attack by the dark forces of Morgoth, and about to fall.
Ecthelion is wounded and his shield arm hangs limb at side as he stands to face the Balrog.

The Dwarf / Still sharp

Trying to make more interesting characters... I made a painting with seven dwarves recently. I simply thought I'd focus on a single one. It is meant as a concept rather than a painting... though pretty traditional, I guess.
