I would like to use this gallery as a way to get my work out there and to really get seen. I also appreciate critique very much because I feel it's the only way to improve as an artist.

My styles and genres vary, but generally consist of fantasy, sci-fi and wildlife art.

fortunately it's over now and I'm on a mission to get as many pictures
finished before the break is over.

Surprising maybe, but no white was used in the making of this picture.
And no blue was used. All the colours are various shades of red or
pink, except the eyes. I was curious if I could accomplish this in a
picture. Hopefully it looks alright. Crits and critique welcome, as
always.
The alpha mare charges up and stares at you with her cold blue eyes, posing as a warning- Are you friend or foe?

Well, a piece that has been laying around as a sketch for about a year
is now finished. I worked on it for about a week I guess, some 1-4
hours at a time after work. The perspective was definitely a challenge
and I had a reference for the girl, but through a computer upgrade and
a move across an ocean, somewhere along the lines, the pic got deleted.
And damned if I could find another reference in the same position. I
found a few that were close for shading.

Some things I like are the perspective. I think That it came out well.
I also like the fur detailing, though I might try a different technique
next time.

Some things I don't like are the color saturation. I tried to tone it
down, but it's very difficult for me to master. Also the shading was
pretty difficult. Especially since she is meant to be a roan coloration
which means she has a light hide. I didn't portray the coloration as
well as I would have liked or that I imagined.

HORSE GEEK ALERT!
(Don't say I didn't warn you...)
As I mentioned, she is meant to be a red or strawberry roan. I decided
to go with the wall eyes because they look cool! So she's not just blue
eyed because humans can be, but she's got the freaky look of a horse
with ice blue wall eyes

Alpha Mare
<media:text type="html">

Alpha Mare

Just wanted to show off my latest creation, started and completed
tonight. I've been massively massively inspired by the likes of Bobby
Chiu and Joe Bluhm recently, and it's definately given me the
inspirational lift I believe that has pushed my art to the next
"level". I have to give out a special shout out to Bobby for taking the
time out of his busy schedule to respond to an email I wrote. It really
inspired me, and even though it wasn't a huge long email or anything,
just that he responded was a great pick-me-up.

I am pretty proud of how this piece turned out. It's my first completed
caricature. I'd greatly appreciate any critique even though I have
called it finished. I hope you all like. Thanks for looking!

Here is the reference this piece was extrapolated from -> http://www.charrartist.com/Art/CharRef1.jpg (I was trying to make a funny face!)

of the titles I was thinking of while I was working on this piece.
Probably one of the more in depth pieces I've managed to do in quite a
long while. This took about a week and a half to complete. I didn't
really want to show any work in progress because even though I really
appreciate crits and critique, I wanted to really gauge my own level.
I wanted to note where my skills lie in their own right and see where I
stand. How do you know what to improve if you never know where you
stand? I wanted a solid, completed piece for people to critique me on,
because sometimes a WIP, the line seems to blur between what is the
idea you want to convey and what idea others want you to convey- even
though a good critic will concentrate on the facts of the piece, not
necessarily the subject matter.

Well- here is my werecat,
loosely based on my character as well as my character in Oblivion.
That game really inspired this piece to come to life. I first worked
in Open Canvas and soon got frustrated with the lack of sure power of
the program. I believe I wanted to move the sketch over and couldn't
figure out how to do so without rotating the whole canvas - which I
found a useless capability. I dragged it over to Photoshop and turned
it into quite the project. Originally just a line drawing, the
linework I created in OC was not satisfactory. So I turned it into a
lineless piece and I like it much better for it.

Seeing a
smaller version makes me realise that the character is a bit bright and
I could possibly push color contrast and just regular contrast more in
the piece. The light from the front of the character is a bit bright.
The piece does not overall have a lot of dark contrast. I guess I got
a bit intimidated when all the darker colors I was choosing were near
the lower left (black) corner, making me hesitant to choose it. I
guess the lights are too light and the darks are a bit too dark. Aw
well. Live and learn. I did learn a lot from this piece. Hope you
enjoy.

In the moonlight of the night....
<media:text type="html">

In the moonlight of the night....
Or... something like that. I would have been smart to write down a few
