    Art Colleges

Well, it's time for me to start thinking about this again.

Which art colleges have you all been too?

And where do you reckon is the best?

I want to go somewhere in the united Kingdom/ Ireland.

I don't really want to do a foundation course, my parents say it will be of no use to me.

I'm thinking of going into illustration, for a company or somesuchthing.

    Re: Art Colleges

I just wanted to bump this thread, cos surely somebody must have advice for you!?

Im applying to uni this year as a mature student, straight onto degree. i did a foundation course like 15 years back, and found it really enjoyable, but it kinda seemed to be the expected progression at the time..  Although it really gave me a chance to mature in a art/work environment and pull my portfoliio together. But i never took it any further at the time - chose to got a job in games industry instead.  So, my perspective is quite different from how you'd be approaching it, and probably very outdated. Although i am going through Ucas application right now - 3 interviews in the next fortnight - so could maybe give you pointers if thats your entry point?

Btw, what level are you at? re you finish Alevels right now? Have you got a portfolio together that you're happy with - and shows a bit of diversity?

    Chris

    Re: Art Colleges

Well I'll be going to uni in two years time but I'm already looking at courses now. If you're applying for a digital arts course chances are you won't need to have done a foundation course although it will obviously help you get in... A lot of more traditional art course do actually require a foundation course to get in.

    Re: Art Colleges

lol, so you've got a bit of time then?  would you stay local? i reckon thats one of the biggest factors- cos you probably aint got a lot of choice if you stay in NI.

btw, your stuff is pretty amazing for your age. but i reckon you'll get pushed to do a range of styles as you get further into ur education? not a bad thing though.

you should also think about doing a life drawing class- they run one at the tech in castlereagh which has a pretty good tutor.

    Re: Art Colleges

     Danke for the compliment.

I think I want to get out of NI. (unless you can think of any reasons i should stay. ie. If there's somewhere good to learn).

House prices are crazy... Don't exactly know of anywhere that would provide much edumaction in Illustration etc here.

Oo.. Life drawing class. Perhaps there's sometime in the summer I could do that.

I have my Work Experience next year already set up with these dudes in Dungannon Called the Pixel Factory, they found me and offered.
