Finished Rebels challenge piece about 24 hours into this one. The best piece I've done so far. I'm happly with it I can see my improvement and I started to understand lighting a little better thanks to the crits I got on this one.
Good to know you are so happy with your progress.
To me, this piece has a lot of energy. This male royalty-figure has a very feminine quality - the way he holds his hands close to chest, the seductive look in his eyes, his big, red flamboyant lips and the little shirt he has on.
I do think you are getting a little too carried away with the form and lighting business, and the volumetric effect is being abused all over. The chainmail and his gauntlets look fantastic with this effect, but his muscles all look quite like tumors. The best way to avoid this would be taking the light source into consideration, and make sure you look at his body as one thing when you apply light, instead of doing them section by section.
