What are the best surfaces for oil paints?

Due to a new project that I plan on starting in the coming months I'd like some insight into what surfaces work best, and if anyone can recommend a good brand of oil paints to start out with.

And if possible any tips would be greatly appreciated.

     Thank you

I paint usually over canvas or watercolor paper (glued to a hard surface, like cardboard). As for a brand I use Talens. If you are starting out I advise you to buy a book for begginers or look for some online tutorials.

    Cheers!
