RIP Painter Magazine - Long live Digital Artist Magazine

It seems changes are afoot over at Imagine Publishing - a revamped magazine. Should ImagineFX look over its shoulder a little?

oh dear, i think i would be really annoyed, it's just making it a whole jack of all trades master of none kind of mag.

I would hate it if our lovely mag changed like that!

    Claire! don't let them change!!!

haha, I don't think it's a show for IFX to change Kaz. I think it's saying Painter is going to be more like IFX. Wink Painter was dedicated to Painter and no other software for the longest time. It looks to me like it's just changing to include the other digital painting programs which IFX already does and does really well. Smile

yes i know & understand that Adam, does your wife ever hit you? Big Smile Stick out tongue What i meant was there's a reason why painter mag is changing and that sometimes affects other magazines, and i don't want our mag publishers jumping on the bandwagon.

Wasn't IFX getting a large share of readers? Maybe Painter just wasn't making sales figures.

    New to IFX?

Re: RIP Painter Magazine - Long live Digital Artist Magazine

They have a mag called "3D Artist" so changing the name of Painter to fall in line with that isn't a huge jump. Then all their Art magazines would have a similar branding, Future have always had the same kind of titling relationship between certain kinds of mags (All their computer mags have the name "Format" for example). If there is a bandwagon though, then IFX is probably the thing that built it, Digit changed it's name a while back to "Digital Arts" after IFX had been around for about a year or so.

Re: RIP Painter Magazine - Long live Digital Artist Magazine

I'm sure they'd love to call it 2D Artist, but that's taken.

There will be a "wider remit" with the new magazine. I'm guessing that after a couple of years there was a bit of repetition setting in - not necessarily a bad thing. Including other digital painting software might spice it up a little.

I find that any repetition in IFX is hugely outweighed by the quality of the artwork, not something that always happens at Painter Mag, in my opinion, although I appreciate that the emphasis there is on explaining the workings of Painter rather than showcasing.

... and furthermore, ImagineFX should really be published by Imagine Publishing, shouldn't it? If there really was a God? I get confused. Nurse!

I think the shock of this news has had an adverse affect on your sanity... or you've been around here too long Stick out tongue

I'm actually more inclined to look at the new mag than the Painter only one which I never bothered buying before. I like Painter, but I don't want a whole magazine about it every month.

I think I'm inclined to agree. I didn't renew my subscription, which ended two issues ago, but I'll give this new version the once over.

yeah i also agree with the banj, i subscribed for 6 months when it first came out, & never renewed, it was quite boring, as is the website.

Re: RIP Painter Magazine - Long live Digital Artist Magazine

I would love a whole Painter dedicated magazine. However one that was more interesting. I liked some issues of Painter and I have a scattered dozen of them, but I wasn't fond of the clean almost sanitary look of the magazine itself. It reminded me too much of the photoshop magazines that I'm really not fond of. I just don't find them easy on the eyes.
