    Can Over-Practice Be Detrimental?

I've recently been practice binging, trying to perfect my character drawing skills (particularly the bodies). The problem is though that my art has slightly gone off during this practice binge. Suddenly I'm finding character body figures harder to draw (and to a certain extent more mechanical in how I draw them). Is this a case of where practicing too much can be detrimental?

It's not just one occurance, I've had it happen to me on a couple of occasions, usually when I practice binge.

If you're tired and feeling over worked, really really REALLY not wanting to draw, but forcing yourself nonetheless, I would call it detrimental and most likely the cause of things feeling mechanical. You need to balance it a bit and make sure that you're not working yourself to a point where you're hating the actual process. Yes its work, but you should still be enjoying it. Kind of like going hiking in the mountains, yeah your muscles are going to hurt, but the being outside and out in the wilderness makes up for it. Same with art, yeah its going to be tough going when you're just starting out, but the act itself and watching yourself improve make the work totally worth it.

Yes, you need to work at it, but don't bring yourself to the point where you never want to pick up a pencil again. Smile

lol you're a human being of course its going to get in the way if you end up practicing too much, only do it when you genuinely want to or at sane levels, of course if you are like me and sometimes have to go all night then sometimes that can end up being good for you too because it gets it out of your system.

Have the sense to rest when you need it, even just going for a coffee break or something is usually enough, its not healthy to work like a maniac all the time regardless of how much you enjoy it.
