    Comics

We're having a debate in the office about comics... it's about whether you guys read them.

Obviously you're into creating art of many forms - comics being one of them - but do you buy and read them too?

    If so, which ones...

    Re: Comics

This sounds bad but I use to love comics, the story lines the art, everything. It’s the thing that really got me in to fantasy art... but as time went by my love dwindled and a year ago I figured out why... I'M ONLY BUYING THEM FOR THE COVER ART!!! Big Smile.

Comics like Fables, the story lines are brill but the internal art work lacked something... then I had to be honest, it was James Jeans cover work that made me buy them. its the same with the work Jo Chen did for the runaways covers and the simple line work of the Liberty Meadows (all hail Frank Cho !!! ) to Franks amazing artwork for the Avengers EVIL EVIL ARTESTS!! ...

So it seams in some case its true "you can't judge a book buy its cover" but it sure as hell isn't going to stop me from buying it in the future lol.

    Re: Comics

    At the moment I buy:

Hellboy, B.P.R.D. Fantastic Four (but only whilel Bryan Hitch and Mark Millar are doing it), Buffy. I buy non regular stuff as well such as Sin City, Wanted or more recently Allstar Superman for example.

I also buy anything (has to be the full comic not just covers) drawn by Glen Fabry, Brian Bolland, Frank Cho, Arthur Adams, Alan Davis, Adam Hughes, Alex Ross, Mike Mignola, Frank Quietly.

On average I maybe buy 5 or 6 comics a month?

    Re: Comics

I don't read any comics at all, life's too short and there's no benefit (for me) from reading them. I admire the artwork however.

    Re: Comics

I haven't bought any for a while, but the library has loads of TPBs, so I've been reading those. Last thing I bought was Batman: Year One a few months back. I'm just finishing off reading Darwyn Cooke's The New Frontier. Never really been into buying single issues every month though.

    Re: Comics

I buy Heavy Metal sometimes, though I liked the mag better in the eighties...However, it runs a few gems like Mills & LeDroits "Requiem" these days .

I also buy Yuokito Kishiros "Alita" every time a new album is realesed. I am also a regular reader of "Valerian" by Mezieres.

I have loads of albums by Moebius, Regis Loisel, Schuiten & Peeters, Enki Bilal and lots and lots of other great visual storytellers - perhaps less known.

I can return to a comic after years and re-read it as a good book - comics are important to me !

    Re: Comics

    I love comic books! I used to get a lot of them at birthdays and else... I don't have that much of a big collection (most of them being at my dad's right now) but I did read a lot of them. Used to rent 10 comics per day durring summer when I was a kid lol Nowadays the only serie I buy religiously is Gunnm... Aside from that, I have quite a few buys planned in the graphic novel department. I like the fact I can have a whole story in a single book and that more often then not, it makes for better quality and less dying plots begging to be killed after years of over-usage ^^;

    Re: Comics

I don't buy serialised comics now, I get graphic novels which are just poncey versions of the same thing.

I've got Sleepwalk by Adrian Tomine to read next.
