    GIMP Reference Guide

    Helllooo,

I'm beginning to get more comfortable with GIMP, having been using it for about 6 months now. But I'm still rather hazy about some of the tools and how they are intended to be used. Can anyone recommend a good reference guide for GIMP? I'm talking about something that explains each function/filter/tool etc. I guess an analogy would be a programmers guide for a computer language...only this is for GIMP. I'm not really looking for a 'this is how you do digital art', but a 'this is how you use GIMP' sort of thing.

    :-D

    Cheers,

    HAL.

    Re: GIMP Reference Guide

I would suggest reading the GIMP help file / program documentation, which is available from GIMP.org. Thats likely the best way to find out the specific info you want. Failing that I would recommend just playing with it.

Depending on your questions I may be able to help you out.

A great book to get if you can find is "Beginning GIMP" by Akkana Peck published by Apress.  Another good one to look into is the "Artist Guide to GIMP Effects" which goes in depth in the layers and filters with an emphasis on digital art (http://www.graphics-muse.org/artistsguide/).
