    FAREWELL PRODUCTIVITY

For I dub this week sporemania day.

Say goodbye to productivity. And live a sporian life. Life imitating art imitating life.

I know, we (me and a bunch of art paintign junkies) might be potentially distracted (and distract others in the design studio as well) about this turning point in game history. And its not even a FPS!

On the plus side - I can say this game is a good insight into

    1. Game Design (what makes a game work? Not graphics. Not sound. Game design. You know thats the golden mantra when Wii gets it wright with their Wii lightsaber....and outdated graphics. Everything else is a symphony that lends to better game experience)
    2. Introduction to Animation and Modelling to newbies (even grandma or a CEO of a multibillion dollar company with no insight into games can play)
    3. AI and behavioural study (when you design art for a game, do you ever figure out if  your fantastical extruded organic shape may become a stumbling block as a polygon.....)
    4. Making Games for Games (these days, its a tight balance between being run by Money men who makes games, as opposed to producing games for games...I guess, you can say spore is a good mixture of each, because, this is going to be another nice feather in EA's cap)
    5. DIgital Licensing, Protection and Releasing a game (what's not so clear is how this willaffect it's sales. A fine balance between IP protection and sales generation via the EADRM)
    6. Future of procedural generation (will we see more developer seeking to produce a persistent evolving virtual world use a procedural methodology. Procedural generation is not new news, its been around as far back as Elite, but revamped into a new practical use)

Signing off as our copy of Spore has just arrived (viva la GAME.co.uk)

To be a industrial artist for games, a good appreciation of game design I feel makes you a better artist - in terms of production art (be a hyper efficient production machine) and overall illustrator.

God bless Will Wright (but sadly we missed his appearance at HMV and the Apple Store, due ot deadlines :( )

    Re: FAREWELL PRODUCTIVITY

Wong's are a very characteristic sub group of chinese migrants.

     They have (myself included)

    • Thick nosed
    • Straight black hair
    • Thick eyebrows
    • Profession: Tends to be teachers, lawyers, scientists, artists. Rarely entrepreneurial
    • Large worldwide clan, and genetically similar strain (not to be confused with those marrying into the family with the Wong name)

    Re: FAREWELL PRODUCTIVITY

I've read this thread a few times now, and I still can't figure out the point of it.

It's unclear to me whether you're saying that you are working (or have done work) on the game, or if you just like playing it.

Man, this game has been anticipated for such a long time.

The DS version has gotten horrible reviews. Stay away from that version!
