    Getting started

Sorry if this has been asked before.

What I have done so far is very comic book style, probably because that is self evident as how to draw/paint - ink the lines and colour them in.

I want to know how to go about painting pictures with more convincing shadows and highlights and therefore, more convincing images. How do you guys do it, I mean technique wise? Do you paint the darkest colour first then the next colour up and keep going till you are on the highlights? ...or what?

    um... help.

    Thanks,

    Jack

    Re: Getting started

When applying shadow and highlight, remember to utilize the "five value" system: Darkest shadow, darker shadow, mid-tone, bright, and highlights. For a comic book, you can probably simplify it to 3 values.

I personally get all the shadow taken care of first, then apply the highlights.

The best way to do this is probably post a few images with what you have done so we can all tell you what needs to be improved, if there is any.
