I stepped out of the Daily Sketch Challenge, but I'd like to share my doodles and WIPs with you anyway. Crits and comments are welcome. And thanks for stopping by ^^.

Well, I had a flash yesterday evening and couldn't put my pencil down. Here are the results.

Two illustrations for my still to come website. I thought illustrated links would be nice. Stanley will be quite present throughout the site.

And another go at LaCroix. Did that one at school while listening to the lecture. I WAS listening, I swear.

Hello good people of Imagine FX. I was a member of these forums before. Around two years ago and I went under the alias of Oakseed. Now, first of all please let me apologise for starting up a new account. But I really wanted to use my real name. Well, two years have past, and I havn't really improved so much. This is mainly due to work commitments and all those things you have to do in life that maybe we don't really want to do amongst other rubbish that has happened.

Anyway, I am back at it and I really do want to improve and hopefully have a portfolio that I can show by the time I am 30. So that gives me around 2 and a half years to gain a fairly decent portfolio. I would be really grateful if you folks could help me along, as I am going to be self taught here. I thought that I would really like to start with learning portraiture as faces are something I find extremely difficult...then I would like to move on with environments after that, or during portrait study to break things up a little.

I do hope that I will be welcome here among all you fellow artists and aspiring designers. I would also like to vow that this time I will not stop uploading and become inactive. Scouts honour!....and yes, I do still buy the magazine.

I know my work is still sucky, but lets begin...

Hey Everyone, I've decided to start a new a Sketchbook for a few reasons. The main reason being is I'm currently doing a lot more work by hand (Hmmm...lets just call that traditionally) again. However I still don't own a dam scanner. Arrrrrrrrrr...must...get...scan...ner...Arrrrr!!!

The second reason is I've been away for so long now I can't recall the last time I posted.

The 2013 IFX Collaborative Sketchbook and 365 Day Challenge

Ha, ha, ha, ha, I'm starting the daily sketch challenge! The text below is copied and pasted from the last year's challenge.

THE CHALLENGE RULES;

PLEASE LIMIT YOUR POSTED IMAGES TO 150K MAXIMUM FILE SIZE. AN EASY WAY TO DO THIS IS MAKE IMAGES NO LARGER THAN 450PIXELS WIDE AT 72PPI.

You are challenged to post a small sketch each day into this collaborative sketchbook.

1 point for each consecutive day you create a new sketch.

Post on the day you do the sketch where possible. If you can't then post your sketches when you get the chance. You could even post weekly with thumbnails of your 7 sketches condensed into one image.

Make a note of your day / point number with each post.

If you don't draw for a day your current score re-sets to zero.

You can start the challenge whenever you want and keep it up for as long as you can. To be added to the IFX elite list of hardcore sketchers you must hit 365 consecutive days.

365 is not meant to be easy but it should be fun to try.

i love sketching. i love it more than finished drawings, its like a constant stream of concsiousness that just flows out onto the paper, and it tells a long and ever changing story of what you were thinking at that moment you were sketching. ill post some of my old as well as new sketches in here, and hopefully itll be filling up quick because i do a hell of alot of sketching, so enjoy!

Dragon-by-Design's Sketchbook of Skill Development

So, I'm finally going about setting up a proper sketchbook here, with the aim of posting as many new sketches, practices and musings as I can every week. After more than a decade (maybe even 15 years?) of very little artistic practice, I've given myself the task of sketching at least a little every day, and so far, since last Thursday or Friday I've succeeded!..... er, with the exception of yesterday (but I sketched twice as long or more today to make up for it :). A lot of the daily work I do will just be gesture drawings at first—they're nice exercises to just get my hand and brain going again—but I won't be posting much of these unless there are some compelling/interesting forms that come out of it. I will try to post more concerted efforts instead, and early on there will be some older sketchwork from the past year mixed in, as it represents some of the material that I've been producing in a "professional" (read: paid) capacity. I otherwise don't want to post much older stuff than that—except for comparison to chart my development—but the past year I've managed some pretty decent work, I think, and it represents where I'm at currently with my skills. Where possible, I will try to keep things in order based on a timeline, but these early posts will probably be pretty mixed up.

So, without further ado, my first sketchbook posting! :) I'm a big fan of Stephanie Pui-Mun Law's work, and wanted to try my hand at mermaid poses, and worked in some anatomy and structure practice while I was at it. Aside from the fact the large mermaid's head is too small (and I couldn't accomplish a "come hither" gesture with her hand, so it's amputated!) I was happy with how her proportions and such came out from memory (which I like to do for practice, to see how much I've learned)—now if only I hadn't decided to do just a head near the edge of the page, before wishing to do the whole body too... Oh yeah, there's some sort of crudely drawn bat creature and some bird-of-prey heads. Just because.

EDIT: Almost forgot, comments and critique on any of my work—be it sketches, WiP or finished pieces—is totally welcome and very much appreciated, always!

I do studies for fun rather than critique request, because I consider studies an intimate and relaxed way to sharpen my skills and let ideas flow freely. In two words: pure fun!

I just began some serious studies on the human skull/head. I'm currently studying both Loomis and Bridgman, as well as doing studies from photo references (statues mostly) and imagination. I'm having a lot of fun with these and I learned a lot in the past 2 days alone. The head is easily the most important feature in figure drawing IMO, so I'll definitely be studying it for at least one or two months.
