remeber that faun pic i was doing? did it digitally instead heres some progress and the finished piece

still life hope to finish this and do it in colour :)

eddard stark still working on this. this hopefully will be in colour.

tyrion lannister also in progress and this will also be in colour

i have lots of sjetches too but i'll put them up as and when i start painting them for real ^^

correcting values, and making him look more his age as the last wip he looked a bit old. ussure of the background right now though.

thanks kazy. i tried adding some pink maybe that will help the blueness in the whites of the eyes.

anyway i'm gonna call this image done. otherwise i'm never going to move onto the next one.

its looking gorgeous wild, really loving the expression, the only thing i can see that draws my eyes are the whites of his eyes, they look a little too blue to me, i'd like a bit of variation in there. Great work though.

so i have tried to correct the neck, it still looks wrong to me so i will keep at it. i compleatly repainted the hair due to some feedback from another site. merged all the greyscal layers and tried to blend the seams a little in places so that they didnt look so separate. i'm proberly gonna do this also by adding colours from the skin and background to the white top and the jacket will be more of a navy colour when i get round to painting it properly :)

thought i'd include the old version here too so you could compare ^^ also i'm not that happy with the background as i think its lost a lot of the texture for some reason :(

thanks mikko. i have some awesome textures saved to my pc. this one is in this pack http://watchingoveru.deviantart.com/art/Watercolour-Textures-192288633 its the one called dancing with the devil :)

so i have yet to finish the portrait. mainly because i'm not happy with the hair in general and are doing some reserch on how to paint hair better.

anyway i was doing a charcoal study to improve my skills of anne fisher (shes an astronaut)

and decided i wanted to try doing this one digititaly i mean the glass is pretty pretty and oh the possibilities for a background, anyway here it is so far

Hi Wilghaggis: When I said "high key colors" I meant saturated, powerful colors, but I totally misused the term. ("High key color" apparently means colors that have white added to them, giving them a pastel look.)

Smolin:- thank you. i't was nice to come back from work to such a nice comment:) could i ask you what you mean by high key? because while i'm familiar with the term high key lighting from my film course i am wondering if the definition is diffrent when talking about high key in painting terms. glad to know my clumsy colour choices work XD as for the facial expression i'm working from reference so i cant take all the credit for that... good to know its compelling though :) i shall take another look at my ref and see about fixing the neck and collar bones. i must have gotten lazy with that section or just didnt notice that it still needed work. thanks again :)

Digital Dave:- the neck shall be fixed then XD glad you think the piece is looking great. i'm pretty impressed on how fast the colouring is actually going of this piece i was expecting to mess it up and get annoyed and sulk with it XD

voluspa: - i didn't notice it before either, that's why more heads are better then one at times ^^ i shall see what i can do about the background. nice to know it has a non digital feel to it :)

I guess I have to agree with smolin on the neck, although I didn't notice before... And I think I'd personally try to ligthen (and perhaps desaturate) the background a bit, just so it's not exactly the same colour as his clothes, and maybe it'd allow his eyes to stand out even more. You're working digital, right? So it's easy to try (though I have to say this image has a lovely non-digital feeling)

Agree with Smolin's observations on the neck, seems to have some sharp angles to it. ... But the piece is looking great overall, Wild. :)

This is excellent. The expression is very compelling, and the colors work perfectly together, managing to convey a deep mood despite being relatively high key.

The only things that look even slightly off are the neck & collarbone. The form of the neck is flattening out on the right (bright side) -- like it's too bright or something, coming too far forward. And the gap between the collarbones seems too pronounced. But considering how well the rest of the piece is painted and how keenly it is observed, I imagine those are just things you haven't polished yet. Lovely work.

so i started to add colour to it today. i think its going pretty well some places kinda only have a flat colour slapped on right now and i'm unsure about the background colour. it will proberbly change. the skin is what i have mainly been working up today.

Not sure I see anything wrong with the nose but the shadows under the nose and around the mouth area all look much better now :)

well i guyess thats good since it means i've fixed it from before then XD gtlad the shadows are working better now and hopefully there not such harsh transitions in general since i've nocked most of the shadows down a bit so that the neck and face match more :)
