drew up a character on the DS and started transferring it to the psd. didnt have time to do lighting or anything like that. I was going to give them a scaley look, with an anenome-like pattern on the tendrils. I might still finish this. I just didnt have time to do anything properly. the squigly linework is the result of a poor wacom driver on my (shiney!) new EP121 tablet (i hope).

aware that the contrast is really low too :/

edtit: Just realised that the wing design of the ships is freaking identical to a covenant banshee from the Halo games.. and that the larger ship by association looks like a straight covenant ripoff as well OH WELL

Started on something but just had no time at all to work on it this month. Here's where i got to. Its probably about half done but I might as well upload it while its still relevant. Some kids playing in a bay as a space ship comes in to land

nearby. First WIP set are sketches from DS

Hadn't realised quite how long it had been since I last worked on this.. been a mad couple of weeks! There has been an awful lot of progression on this months challenge with some real strong entries.. gonna make a few comments along with what I think is my final post.

Jimmy Manton: This is a nice dynamic image, the colour wash certainly works well I don't think that I would tinker with it too much.

Psypher101: Glad to see you pushed on with this.. and yes there are simpler ways to do all that hard work with the scales but you are so far through and done so well it may be even more painful to learn of some of the quicker methods :D

nedgip: A lovely job all in all.. despite that your mermaids look perfectly fine if you did want some further inspiration the new Pirates of the Caribbean have some very sweet looking mermaids.. that said with how little time left that could be a struggle!

Gabriella: she really is charming, you have done an excellent job with the fabric and overall design of the dress. The expression and pose could not have been captured any better and I do like the painterly nature of the background.. well done! Will be looking forward to what you will be setting for us next month :)

Sarmati: This lovely... I thought I had gone for wide format but that is truly a wide format. That last wip I was looking at has a sort of torn paper and paint splatter on the bottom edge as If its been painted traditionally.. is it? or is it a painter effect?

Hansnomad: I like this.. I think you can keep the floating rocks without any mechanism, maybe take a fresh look at Camerons' Avatar for reference.

Lith: Beautiful entry and I really like the change you made in the pose :)

obsessedkitten: you clearly have an intriguing mind.. stunning image!

byakko: Lovely use of perspective and colour.. very atmospheric, well done.

ultranuke: Has that warm childrens book illustration look about it.. nice!

cybermonkeytron 3000: That is some very, very clever characterisation!

jonnymarvel: a nicely represented apocalyptic feel, very well supported by the hot colour pallet.

Well after having had a week or so away from this I realised I just wasn't happy with the central structure so I have heavily re-worked areas of it to be more mechanical which is what I was after. I also added more story element by suggesting that this is a very wet world.. hence the rain, I felt this also supported the notion of these huge lighthouse beacons sending beams of light out across the lands to draw people to them. This is probably my last wip and I am posting a slightly larger version so it can be seen ok.. hope it doesn't cause any problems.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments and feedback. I don't think i'll be able to submit my final this time.. it's been a busy month. It's definately going to be hard to vote though, there are some very interesting ideas here. Nice work :)

Threw a sketch up a week ago. Just did some refining and added a light wash for the moment. More dynamic color to come Cheers, Jimmy
