Yup, I've got hardcore shading block. I haven't finished with the highlights, but I just got completely stuck trying to do the shadows.

Any help would be much appreciated - sunlight is filtering down from the top right corner, on a diagonal toward the dog's face.

November 2009 Challenge - 'Out of the Mist' - WIP Thread!

The theme for this month is...

‘Out of the Mist’

I wanted to pick a theme that was open to a lot of different interpretation. I am looking forward to seeing what you all can come up with.

Deadline for entry is midnight (GMT) on MONDAY 30th November. There is a 5 minute grace period for getting your entries posted properly, after which a moderator will post a list of valid entrants and voting begins. Voting will then close at midnight GMT on MONDAY 7th DECEMBER, when a moderator will total up the votes and announce a winner. Toward the end of the challenge a mod will pick someone at random from the participants to set a new challenge for next month (so keep an eye out, TRUST ME IT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT).

Work in progress must be posted in this thread (please restrict conversation to this thread and keep the finals thread clear). Final entries should be posted in the FINAL ENTRIES thread: http://community.imaginefx.com/forums/thread/253065.aspx

Brief rules: It is compulsory to submit a minimum of 2 different WIP stages in the WIP thread in addition to your entry. Links to your WIPs must be included for you to be eligible for inclusion. Artwork must also be created within the time period of the challenge, any previously created works will be disqualified. Moderators will discount any votes deemed suspicious and adjust the result accordingly.

First Portrait Painting

This is my first digital portrait painting. Done in grayscale,as I'm not familiar with colour yet. Her hair is supposed to be afro style. I would apriciate any feedback on what can I do to improve her hair and the gray values on her face, I think it looks a bit flat at the moment, but I'm kind of stuck...

Hello guys and gals. This is an idea I got after I got my new Pc up and running...

Uhm, yeah. Not much to say other than I need some critique on this! Especially on the part of getting the car to fit more into the scene proportionwise, it looks a bit off to me but I can't seem to wrap my head around it..

EDIT: And what sort of dress/outfit should the woman wear? I'm not sure myself.. Wedding dress?

Fightclub Round 24 - Demonessa vs Noriko FIP

Round 24 sees too veterans of Fightclub duke it out, all be it with evolved versions of themselves. Should be another good one.

Solomon's Demonessa is about six feet tall and her metallic skin is orange, hair is green, boots and forearms are dark red. Her eyes are bright yellow (including the third eye) She has wings that glow blue and are deployed only when she's flying. She's a fusion of machinery and demon. It's been rumoured that she's the daughter of the Devil!

Ander Soth's Kusunoki Noriko is tall and slender, being a skilled acrobat and fighter. An expert with Eastern weaponry (and hair-pins) she makes a living as a bounty hunter, mercenary and assassin.

Both contestants must post one final image in the FINALS thread and minimum of two here in the wip thread. The deadline for final images is midnight Sunday 22nd November UK time. Voting will then be open for two days. For full rules check them out on the Fightclub Blog.

I'm starting a new series, haven’t painted one in a while.

This new one is going to be based around one layout and I’m going to paint as many different images using this layout (hoping for twelve for a calendar). I like the idea of restricting myself in an attempt to grow, makes no sense I know, but the theory is that if I can get 12 completely different images form the one structure then my creativity will be stretched... cross fingers.

The basic Layout plus two thumbs, one I’ve already started working on as a break from "epic"

Hi all, I'm looking for crit on my newest digi painting of the disney princess, Aurora. Last time I drew Ariel which I was pretty pleased with (here; http://meirou.deviantart.com/art/Ariel-and-Flounder-irl-120588501) this time around, the drawing looks very static and lifeless. The idea is birds will be perched on her should and flying around her, but I dunno. I feel it lacks something the ariel painting has. Any suggestions? :)

btw the contrast and brightness may be abit messed up. I'm doing it on my laptop and when I finish, I adjust the brightness on the computer.:P

Hero Bookmarks WIP

I was trying to get a heroes of the world bookmark set idea going and I thought I would start on my favorite the "Sword Saint" Musashi. Here are some ideas I had for it. I was thinking of using a watercolor style much like the original ukio E paintings.( Sorry if I didn't spell that right)

Needed to get a few opinions on the sketches so far. I can't seem to decide which works for Musashi. Would love any feedback and the harsher the better.

Later on I intend to have guys like Julius Caesar and Hannibal to name a few.

This challenge runs from Friday 13th of November, up until (midnight) of Thursday 25th of November.

Due to some people operating slower computers or connections it has been requested that posted images be no more than 200KB.

WIP's, jokes, comments, and all other banter in the WIP section found here:

Entry must have been made during the Bi-Weekly timeline, NO PREVIOUS ARTWORK IS ALLOWED! This includes paintovers and copies of work by other artists. Warning: The Paintover Police operate in this area :) Final images should be posted here: One entry per person. Voting will then commence. The winner gets much kudos and the chance to name the 49th Rebels Bi-Weekly Challenge.

(Not so), NEW RULE!

From this point, anybody wishing to have their entry included in voting MUST include at least 2 WIP stages in the WIP thread. In order to make it easier to find these WIPs when setting up voting, entrants MUST also include 2 "clickable" links direct to their own WIP stages in the relevant WIP thread. Entrants can post far more than 2 WIP stages if they like in the WIP thread, as long as 2 seperate links are included with the image posted in the Final Entry thread. Both links must show different stages of the pictures development and neither WIP image can be the finished entry (i.e. you can't just post a couple of quick early pencil sketches for WIP and skip to the the finished pic). The timing of these posts is not important as long as they are within the current WIP/challenge period. Any entry not including 2 valid links (as described above) will be disqualified and not be included in the voting list. It will be the responsibility of the entrant to ensure the links are there and that they link to the correct artwork. Even If you have posted artwork in the WIP thread, you will still be disqualified from entry if you do not supply the links to those images. Voting rules for anyone who doesn't know yet: You can vote for up to 3 people. Your first choice gets 3 points, your second choice gets 2 points, and your third choice gets one point .

I started this image off for the design our cover challenge and its still evolving.

I started this with my bamboo fun but today I played with the creatures (dragon) paw/claw with my first go at the Intuous and Im so impressed with the quality of the pen, the sensitivity etc

No, I promise this isnt an ad for it. I was just happpy and wanted to share :)

Feedback welcome too... but bear in mind Im still doing as a WIP :)

Hi!

This is a painting I'm doing for my portfolio. This is the black and white thumbnail that I've worked on to establish the composition. I would like to hear anything you guys have to say about it :)

I'm aiming for warm colors and an "epic" cloudscape. The airship in the foreground is just a placeholder. I will now start doing sketches to come up with a cool design for it. And I will post them in this thread too.
