I''m a beginner of 3-d Modeling in general and found Poser to be great so far. I click YES to each answer but the model never comes together and I get an error message.

Does anybody know what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks!

Dave

DAZ|Studio 2.3.3.50 released

DAZ3D has released a new stable version of their free 3D application DAZ|Studio. But I'm wondering what is included on the software "out of the box" other than the application? I'm most interested in having a male and female figures (of just muscles would fit most of my needs) and also a poseable skeleton of both sexes. My understanding is that with this program I could adjust the parameters of a figure (bigger muscles, smaller waist, custom face, etc), pose it and print out turn around reference images (I know I can probably do alot more but I'm just interested in it for a "virtual lifemodel" refference tool.

Now here is what I'm kinda confused about:

I know DAZ Productions & Content Paradise websites sell all sorts of different male and female figures and skeletons for Poser but are there none of these types of figures included in Poser right out of the box? They also sell "body Morphs" I thought poser allowed you to make custom bodies and faces (bigger muscles, fatter, etc) as well as posing. Am I mistaken by thinking I have to buy all the different muscle morphs, body maps and special skeletons to make the best use of poser (for my uses) or is this just for people who don't want to do their own shaping?

Does anyone have poser 6 or 7 and can tell me what kinds of figures (if any are supplied)?

Thanks for anything you can tell me!

Do You Want More Poser In ImagineFX?

If you do, then let them know as at the moment it seems as if 2D takes most of the space.

If you don't ask, you don't get.

All the best.

Richard

Howdy!

Noobie here @ Imagine FX - my work can be seen over at Renderosity - got couple in the gallery here.

Poser 7 Any users here....

Hey all.. I am use poser 6, 3d Max, Vue, and photoshop 7.. I was wondering if anyone has gotten the new poser 7 yet.. This would be a good place to start a thread.. of .. Poser 7, the good, the bad, and the ugly.. We're the redheaded stepchildren of 3D ... and proud of it!

Just to be productive, however, rather than waxing long on how much I admire Poser and those who do so much more with it than simply hunting for the "make art" button (hint: it's not there, folks!), I'll throw out one little tidbit that I'm always surprised is such a stumbling block for even some of the experienced users:

Thumbnails!

Whenever you save a character, a prop, a pose in Poser to the appropriate library, it creates a thumbnail image. This image is a 91x91 pixel 32-bit (NOT 24-bit!) PNG image, with transparency, so that the subject matter floats and has a dropshadow in the library, as with all the ones that come preloaded. However, that thumbnail is taken from the preview image, not the rendered image, so all of your carefully-composed lighting and effects are lost, and especially, anything that uses transparency is lost in the thumbnail, such as hair. Who wants Bald Vickie In A Temple With A Sword?

The trick is to first save your character, prop, pose, etc. to the correct library. THEN, go up to your render settings on the menu bar, and choose "Render dimensions," setting them to 91x91. Then, render the image, and you'll get a very small - but accurate - rendering of your subject. Go to File>Export image, and it should bring up the dialogue box, already pointed at the folder in which you saved your library item (this is about the ONLY time that this particular default in Poser is useful!). Make sure that your fiiletype is set to PNG, and select the PNG file that was created when you saved the library item, telling it to overwrite that file. Save it, and you're done! Wasn't that easy?

Now, when you go back to the program, you'll still see the same old thumbnail, most likely. Not to worry - Poser just hasn't refreshed them. Go to the top of the Library panel, pick another section (if you're in Props, pick Faces or some other library), then, once you've shifted to the new section, go back up to the top and reselect the library in which you started; it will go back there and display the new thumbnail you created.

Now go drink a cup of coffee and feel the warmth of both caffeine and accomplishment, even if your accomplishment is only 91 pixels square - we all have to start somewhere!

Now, on to the "Poser isn't really a 3D program" discussions that we all know and love ...
