Keep Your Eyes Open for the arrival of ArtRage 3 - It's a must have

I was very privileged yesterday to get to meet Matt, one of the software developers for a glimpse at what's in store for the next iteration. We sat together with fellow Artrager Jake (Enchanter) around Matt's laptop in the cafeteria of the National Gallery, while he showed us what he and the team have been putting together.

All I can say is WOOOOOOOOOOW! It will be so worth the wait. I'm forbidden from going into any details, but can reveal that the whole thing has been rewritten from base up to include some mind blowing tools (and I mean really powerful and effective inclusions). One new tool in particular is really going to have the likes of Adobe and Corel sitting up and taking notice, offering a revolutionary level of control I've not seen before. There's also a watercolour brush offering wonderful response and pigment interaction that I'm just dying to get my hands on. The interface while retaining some of the look of version 2.5 will be much more customisable, and adaptable for different platforms. If pricing remains even near to as competitive as it has been in the past, it's set to become an indispensable software for any sort of digital artist. Kids will love it for the sheer fun it is to use. Serious digital artists will love it for its power and control. It's already very compatible with Photoshop, but that's set to improve even more. I'd love to have it in my arsenal now, and am thrilled to have seen it .

The only downside - it's not likely to be available until 2009. An Alpha version will become available some time in September for those in the testing group. If you're a serious ArtRager who can keep his mouth shut until official release, and would like to be considered as a tester, it might be worth joining the ArtRage forum and asking the development team. They moderate the forums and are very approachable. Don't worry if you don't get immediate response. They are a small team and rather busy creating something special for us at the moment.

what workflow should I use with artrage?

I just bought artrage 2.5 to unlock all the features and I'm a bit perplex on how to use the program. I'm used to working on photoshop; sketch, greyscale and then colors... But of course, that don't work in artrage and I'm just not sure how to go about things, so far, anything I tried in there looked like if colorful puke. x_x any tips?

got my first copy of art rage this week. have been busy though so havnt had much time to play. today I have to come up with some fantasy ideas for a cover, so I started in art rage thinking I would give up and head back to photoshop and get some work done after half hour If nothing was working.

what a plesant suprise! easy to use or what, intuitive isnt the word, fantastic sotware, and the sketching settings are just wonderful. so heres my first wip, 20min sketch. Ill be doing more for the project, they wont be posted here, just wanted to say what a cool bit of kit this is and if your thinking about getting one, do :D

Anyone know of any good tutorials for Art Rage? Also any info on how to use the stencils would be much appreciated...

There's something about Art Rage that hinders my ability to learn the app by just playing with it...

hi there and how the heck do you buy artrage2? i've been trying to buy it and the site it wont recognise my email address..grrrr... so therefore it wont let me proceed with purchase. SO is it well worth buying and if so, how else can i acquire said art package?

(okay, okay i gettit its all actually a big joke right? I mean it lives up to its name..you try and you get art rage...i know i was getting angry by my 12th attempt!)

Blue and yellow don't make green

If I put down a broad stripe of paint on the canvas, then brush over it with another colour, the two can be mixed together nicely. But mixing blue and yellow doesn't make green. Anyone else noticed this?

And on the subject of mixing paint, is there any way I can put down an area of paint and then push it about with an empty brush? Like using the palette knife, but with a brush tip. I can't see a way to remove all paint from the brush, it has to have some sort of colour at all times.
