A couple of minutes after jumping to the FTL speed she hit an uncharted ice asteroid. The energy shield saved the ship from an instant annihilation but it exploded 20 minutes after the accident, killing the majority of the passanger and the crew. The high casualty rate was due in part to the fact that, although complying with the regulations of the time, the spaceship did not carry enough rescue pods for everyone aboard.

Six years after the accident, Earth received a digital radio pattern, containing a series of various holograms from the ship. The images were taken during the cruise, some of them only moments before the tragic departure, probably by a news-droid.

------------------------------

The first one in my series of illustrations Titanic's Last Departure.

If you like the illustration and use the Facebook, please visit my Facebook page and add yourself as a fan, so that you receive future updates regarding my work. Only took about 15 minutes, and that was my very first use of Hypershot.
so my plan now is to make a new version of this, by taking a full version of the model - plan to add different materials to each part for the render - as every pin and bolt is a seperate object in the full model. hopefully this will make a much more realistic render.
welcome any crits.
i highly reccomend hypershot - its pretty darn awesome !

a better res version can be seen at www.conceptdude.com

My Studio/Carrara Work.

I tought to put my gallery for the two apps into one thread.

I use Studio 2.3 and 3, as well as Carrara 6 Pro with Photoshop 7 and a freakin' mouse for postwork. :) Thank you, to anyone who takes the time to view and/or critique any of my works. I always appreciate the input.

Onward. The newest piece I have is titled "Warlock". Studio 3 (free version) for the render. Minor postwork in PS7.

New Character

A new character I've modeled up. Facially he isn’t based on anyone man, but I was inspired by aged leading actors that still have a physical presence and intensity (Eastwood, Patrick Stewart, late Paul Newman and a touch of Bruce Willis).

As the concept developed I was reminded of a series of books I read as a child- Rendezvous with Rama. Specifically I thought the role of commander Norton fitted the type of character I was trying to depict. Here’s a quick description of Billy Norton:

“Bill Norton is the 55-year-old commander of the spaceship Endeavour. He leads a mission whose task is to explore the alien spacecraft Rama. As a commander, he takes an active role in most of the missions. Just like a true captain, he is always the first one to go in and the last one to come out.

Norton has two wives, who live on different planets. He is traveling through space for most of the time, so he keeps in contact with his spouses by sending them near-carbon copies of his messages. His hero is Captain James Cook, a mythical explorer of the 18th century. He often relies on the imaginary advices of Captain Cook to make important decisions regarding his missions.”

Modelled in Maya and zbrush, rendered with mentalray. The background was made in post. Initially I was displacing the head but found it was killing render times, so I used a midlevel mesh with a 4k normalmap….an awful lot quicker. Rendered at 2800 x 2200, though the final image isn’t that aspect.

Really do appreciate any comments or crits,

Cheers,

Dave

Please take a look at the medium res version.

DinoMonsters, new Superheroes.

I was working hard for the past 3 months.

Sha-Raen is one amongst numerous moons orbiting gasseous planet Jaerena in the Ka'arh star system. Chilly, windy, unpleasant and lifeless world, covered by thin methane atmosphere and with (mostly) frozen lakes and rivers of ammonia. For the inhabitants of the planet Xalli, the only planet in the star system originating intelligent life, this remote moon is interesting mainly because of its surface, rich with iridium ore. It wouldn't stand a chance as a tourist resort if it wasn't for the fact that it hosts a rare artefact: an old derelict of an alien spaceship.

After the remnants of the data from the damaged information system of the ship were reconstructed and translated by Xallian archeologists and xenologists, it became clear that the unfortunate visitors were members of a rather rowdysh race of intelligent monkeys, now locally extinct and dispersed all around the galaxy, originating from the nearby star system of Calyra. They used to call their star "Sun" and their planet, at the time a bluish paradise similar to Xalli, "Earth". The Ka'arh star was referred by them as "Alpha Centauri A".

The postcard depicts one of the numerous visits by the Xallian tourist vessels on the site.

This is one in a series of illustrations of my SF&F serial Postcards From Beyond. Done entirely in Cinema 4D & Bodypaint 3D. Software used: Zbrush, photoshop.

Really short story behind the image:
She was an old Knitter living beneath mountains of Amdo, one of Tibetan northeast regions.
She lived lonely life on the outskirts of a small village in which all people thought she was a witch.
Indeed, this old lady wasn't ordinary by many standards, one in particular, her calling.
She made here living by producing rare red silk known by the name Arakna.
Nothing unusual with that at first glance one would say, but, those who knew her better, knew where she got that silk from.
She kept few giant spiders in her manor as her pets, whose webbing, if
properly refined, could produce this though shiny rare material.
In this image we see her absently gazing ahead, while holding one of her nasty pets.

Hope you like.

Hive Mind I

Here's an odd story of inspiration. So I was going through the gallery
section of cgtalk, and I saw this thumbnail that really caught my eye.
When I clicked on it, it turns out the thumbnail was actually taken from
a rather minor part of the final image, it wasn't the focal point at
all. I loved the thumbnail so much, it inspired me to make this image,
which of course looks nothing like the final image they made. I totally
can't find their image anymore, so I can't credit them for the initial
inspiration, but if anyone finds a thumbnail that looks kinda like this
image, let me know so I can credit the original artist. It's funny how
an artists mind can make odd associations, you see a set of shapes or
colors, and one artist sees a loaf of bread, another sees the potential
for the same shapes to form a scary monster. I painted this image really
big (like 5k) so I can print him out really huge one day, I think he'll
look pretty imposing on the wall. About half paint and half 3d. Already
have a Hive Mind II in the works that has a similar creature, but
totally different composition.

- Neil

Vue works

I made this image using the software Vue 6 Infinite, and i then post worked it in photoshop.
Tarantul Sorcerer

After some months of efforts and through lots of works and pushing myself.
