My favourite robot?

I was part inspired to ask this by the high number of robotic/android types that seem to find their illustrated way to these pages, and part because I dug out my old Tetsujin 28 t-shirt the other day and felt the need to revisit the big old fella's work. But I was wondering what well known robots are your particular faves, that inspire you, amuse you or you just like the huge gurt proportions of?

As I just mentioned, mine is Tetsujin 28, a big old Japanese fella I discovered quite by chance. His benign metallic face makes you feel both a tad of awe and incredibly safe - and he's got one of my favest theme tunes of all time to go along with him!

What's your favorite anime?

I used to like Akira a whole lot, but it now seems a little outdated with newer, fancier anime coming out. The same can be said about Ghost in the Shell.

My latest favorite is The Melencholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. What a great show. The art is not revolutionary or anything but its attention to detail makes it a very enjoyable experience.

Books that inspire and provide nice subject for fantasy and si fi art.

From when i started drawing i would draw what i thought what some of the characters for "Lord of the Rings" This was before the Peter Jackson films. There where some animated films. I would try to draw characters and tower I had never seen depicted in those animated films, Faramir, Denthor, Orthanc, Minas Morgul... In college i read the Silmarillian and had charecters that i had no other depictions in my mind to influence what i drew.

I would like for others to share some books they read that inspire them to want to make images of what they describe.

A recent entry that I posted in the Daily Sketch thread was of a scene from the movie Doc Hollywood, where Julie Warner bathes in a lake at sunrise. I mentioned the piece of music by Carter Burwell used in that scene, and I got thinking that it might be a good idea to have a thread of favourite pieces of movie music, with links, so that others can appreciate them too.

Recently I've realised how much I still love reading a comic. I was given a bunch of old comics my mum has stored for me for years. I guess she thought it was time I took them back. Anyway I've been reading old Hitman and The Demon comics. Both are great fun.

So I'd like to bring myself up to date there must be some great comics out at the moment. I'm a bit ignorant to them all though and there are so many. Any recomendations for a series worth following?

Or even something older I could still find back issues of.

Am an avid heavy metal fan! Nightwish inspires me to draw out some crazy stuff. Mainly the old stuff tho. Ghost love score and moondance are great tracks to draw to.

I didn't see that anyone had a thread like this, and music inspires me the most. I like to listen to gothic rock. Some examples of songs I particularly like are: "The Dog's a Vapour" Bauhaus, "Dead to the World" Fields of the Nephilim, "Hollow Hills" Bauhaus, "Temple of Love" Sisters of Mercy and "Lucretia, My Reflection" Sisters of Mercy.

Are there any series you would like to see on the big screen? Live or animated?

The top series I would like see turned into a movie include

Powers - Great crime detective feel looking for superpowered criminals.

The Authority - Written by Warren Ellis gritty mind that has enough kick leaving you wanting more.

The Ultimates - Hopefully the upcoming avengers movie will resemble this.

Rising Stars - ( I feel like this was turned into the Heroes tv show)

I fancy Leela Turanga from Futurama.

I've really been inspired by games in the past. The Silent Hill series is the one that comes to mind immediately, but also the Final Fantasy and Half-Life series. When I was a kid, drawing Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat characters is how I discovered anatomy.

Guilty Pleasures: Movies, music etc that you like, but probably shouldn't.

Okay, I mentioned starting this thread a couple of weeks ago, and I'm now doing it.

We've all got our lists of favourite movies, music etc which we are proud to tell people about, but there are always things we miss out on purpose - the ones which aren't cool, or which people will laugh at, but which we love anyway.

This thread is for you all to unburden yourselves.

Think of it as group therapy.

So, to start off with, I'm declaring my love for the movie Josie and the Pussycats - it's silly, it's sweet and it's fun*, and it always cheers me up.

(*and it's got the wonderful Rosario Dawson in it too - hurrah!)

Inspiriation from music

I saw the thread about movies but I think, at least for myself, that music influences me more than movies or television. Granted, I love watching somewhat 'childish' shows if they're created in 3D or animated because I'm fascinated with the creation process, and movie effects too. But what gets to me the most is the background music in great movies and music in general.

Instrumental pieces, classical or electronic or noise, really influence me and take me away to a place where I can really get my ideas flowing.

I also enjoy a lot of trance, techno, gothic, darkwave, and electronica.

Right now The Fountain soundtrack is really influencing me in my work as well as Radiohead's latest album, In Rainbows, as well as Air and Joy Electric.

If you have musical influences, what are they and what's your favorite genre of music?

Actors that Inspire

I believe a great actor can truly capture the essence of a character he/she plays, and that inspires me when it comes to creating characters. Whenever I'm writing a concept for a character, I immediately think of an actor who could portray him well.

What actors/actresses influences you best?

I've always been a fan of Clive Owen, I've already made up two characters after him.

There are more but it'll take forever to get them out of my head.

There are millions of them out there, but out of the crop what do you mostly visit and how do they inspire you?

Personally one of my homes and fav for many years has been Shadowness

This site has been through many changes but what inspires me most is the main admin Meng To who maintains the site on his own, in his own time for the huge community and he still has time to create some stunning digital images.

Have a look around and you might see one or two ImagineFX artists on there ;)
