    is there an faq anywhere?

    simple question...

I find the galleries on this site an absolute chore to manage, I must be doing something wrong, is there an faq or "how to" guide anywhere.

for those who run the site...  just a comment but there are so many better ways to run a gallery... why does this one have to be so jolly hard!?

Re: is there an faq anywhere?

im with u on that... its great they offer us this service but i sometimes have a hard time getting the site to do waht i want... i would LOOOVE that when u press someones avatar in the forum it would provide a link to their IFX gallery... now it leads to some info about the person and if he/she haven't put himself/herself a link to the IFX gallery at the spot "website" then there is none...

but its still a great site.

so does the lack of response mean there isnt an faq anywhere?  Im still struggling to get to grips with the galery system here, and it means my participation in the site is limited.

not really. thats a link to a tutorial on posting images in the forum....

My question was is there a faq section for galleries.  The galleries on this site are difficult to use and have some confusing features, is there and faq or user guide for the galleries, not the forum.

unfortunately I don't think there is a faq on how to use the gallery at the moment. I myself haven't figured everything out yet. Stick out tongue if you have a specific question on something just give it a post here and whether one of us mods or one of the good members of the forums answers, you'll no doubt get the answer your looking for. Re: is there an faq anywhere?

Presenting your five-step guide to uploading your artwork to our galleries and creating your own personalised art portfolio…

    1) Register
First thing’s first, you’ll need to register your details. This is very easy and takes a matter of minutes. Go to http://www.imaginefx.com/Registration/register.aspx and follow the instructions.

    2) PREPARE YOUR IMAGES
Next, you need to prepare your images. Using Photoshop or similar, save your images as JPEGs – it’s best to keep your images to around 500k max in size.

    3) Adding images
Click on Galleries in the top navigation bar. Then what you need to do is click 'create my gallery'. Then you should see the option of 'common tasks' somewhere below...At the bottom right of the page that appears you’ll see a ‘Common Tasks’ section. Click on the ‘add picture’ link (you’ll need to upload your images one at a time).

    4) upload options
On the page that appears, click the Upload Photo button. Then, add a ‘friendly’ description and click Browse to navigate to an image you prepared in step two. Next, add a description and click Save. Your image will appear in your portfolio.

    5) Comments
You can reply to any comments made about your images in the same way as you comment on other artists’ work.

I'll also put this up as a sticky in the help and support thread...

We don't necessarily mean you. You got to be in from the start to get a cut of the spoils.

Re: is there an faq anywhere?

    Hi

thanks for that.  ok so having been through the system again there are some points I find strange... quite a few actully, so Ill list some here just for reference and to bring your attention to them.

it seems if I dont paste a link to my ifx gallery in my profile then there seems to be no way for people to find my gallery? is this correct, it seems I wasnt visible for 2 months even though people were trying to find my gallery, and I wonder how many other people are not visible when they assume they are because they have uploaded images but havnt posted a link in their profile to their portfolio. and what happens if I also want to post a link to another site like DA? cant verywell put that in the same place.

in the portfolio manager section albums seem to be called "tags/keywords" I realise that adding tags and keywords is useful, but when I was trying to create an album all I could see were reference to tags and keywords... not what I was looking for, I wanted to create an album or folder...  so I wonder does it have to be this confusing or can that section not be called, "creating albums, tags, keywords" then people know what its for and what it does.

css overrides. this has no explanitory text anywhere.  does this mean that if I insert css code in that section it will be applied to my gallery? my home page? are there limitations? can I create a css template and paste it here? or can I just change things like colour and fonts? in short what can or cant we do with the css functions?

Ok Im going to stop there, but there are alot of descriptive areas which are obscure, and lots of areas for use and managment of files, folders, albums etc which are not self explanitory.  I can upload images, and they are all there, but aside from that it all seems a little cumbersome and in places.

if anyone ever puts together an faq or guide to the forum it people often want to know how to do simple stuff like changing avatars, but also slightly more complex things like adding a banner to their posts.  a good guide to both areas would be very useful, I sure it could be written by the community for the site if it was managed by one of the site administrators.

Just my 2p worth... because I wonder how many people dont do all they could or decide to give up because the gallery system in general seems cumbersome.
