    SmartKyle's sketchbook 3rd may UPDATE P5

Ok well first and foremost, Happy New Year to all.

I thought it was about time i started putting some of my sketchbook stuff on the intertubes, but first heres some of my thoughts on the direction i wanaa go etc. Atm im 18 at college studying Art, Design tech and graphic design and my long term goal is to become a concept artist for a game or movie production company. I try to sketch an hour every day and this year i hope to fill 4 maybe 5 sketchbooks not including my college work.

Lately (this past 6 months or so) I've worked in my sketchbooks and other thing almost exclusively in pen as my design teacher suggested it would help me become less precious with my drawings and help me improve alot faster. I started a new book about a month ago and am about a third of the way through and to start this thread heres some stuff from that. If you see me making the same mistake twice please tell me or if you have any other tips which might help please share.

And for now... that all folks.

    Re: SmartKyle's Mind-belch (yes a sketchbook)

i personally quite likes this styles.(strong outline),ps:the 6 and 7 looks like metal gear solid.
would be more better if you coloring it i guess^^ (you male drawing are cool but with only "one lady in moction",and the lady aren't very cool , i think is a downside ¬)

but  it still very "professional" to my eyes.

great sketches Kyle. I especially like the break dancer and the guy with the staff. lines are strong and you seem to have a good understanding of proportions when illustrating your figures. I also like the ribbon girl but at the same time find the last girl's features to be a little off. her chin juts forward quite a bit and her nose seems awefully large, almost like an old man's nose.

    Re: SmartKyle's Mind-belch (yes a sketchbook)

Thanks for the comments and crits guys.

Chison- Yer the lack of females is a good point, i need to do lots more i think. I tihnk its because i've just started getting the hang of the male figure im just messing around with it i guess. Yes 6 and 7 are heavily inspired by metal gear as i did them on boxing day just after reading ashley wood's metal gear graphic novel i got for crimboBig Smile

Fabledgoat- yer its all a little off i guess, it was one of those scribbles that turned into a picture type of things. I tried to push proportions and try my hand at a more exagerated style... came out a bit iffyTongue Tied

anyway, I did this page earlier today while watching tv.

And for tomorrow and this week, its time to start focusing on ladies!

    Re: SmartKyle's Mind-belch (yes a sketchbook)

    Hey Smartkyle,

Getting some real angst into the pose. At least she has a lot of hair to tear out and maybe won't miss some.   ! and 1/2 hours would be super quick for me.  Seems like you've come pretty far already.

Don't suppose you feel like copying your entry posting to a dedicated challenge thread for this I started, to try and keep the entries together.  It would make the challenge easier to follow.  I don't want to miss any.   It should still stay linked to this sketchbook thread, so that viewers can have both.

    Enjoy your tea.

They are coming along super good.  I certainly look forward to seeing the finished product.  The Cyberwoman reminds me of the anime remake of Metropolis.  It's a very unique.

    Re: SmartKyle's Mind-belch (yes a sketchbook)

Yeah, thats looking really good, I'm very impressed.  The picture leaves the viewer to think about what's going on with the cyberwoman (sence of feeling), I like that. ;)

I would suggest to pick up a copy of the anime Metropolis, I really like it, I believe that it's very close to the original artistic impresion of the black and white movie.  The artwork in the movie is very unique, it is very similar to the film "When the Wind Blows" but with it's own flair.
