    Superman 75

So, sometime in early January, I realised there was 75 weeks until the June 2013 release of Man of Steel, the new Superman movie, which also celebrates the 75th anniversary of the character's first appearance in Action Comics issue 1.

I got the idea came to to challenge myself to produce 75 caricatures of actors who have appeared in various big and small screen incarnations of the Superman story, 1 a week, until that date.

I've already fallen slightly behind (hopefully I can catch myself up) but here are the first batch:

Terence Stamp as Zod in Superman: The Movie and Superman II:

And his fellow Kryptonian villains Ursa (played by Sarah Douglas):

and Non (played by Jack O'Halloran):

The next batch are the stars of the first Superman movie serial in 1948.

    Kirk Alyn as Superman:

    Noel Neill as Lois Lane:

    Tommy Bond as Jimmy Olsen:

(not very happy with this one, but there's very little reference to go on)

The latest batch are something more up to date - three of the cast of the TV series Smallville.

    Tom Welling as Clark Kent:

    Erica Durance as Lois Lane:

    Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor:

    Fantastic work Em..

Did you caricature Non? I seem to recall him looking exactly like that in the movie (which by-the-way is my favourite superman movie!).

All these drawings are faithful and interesting. You have a crisp technique that I really enjoy, except... with Tom Welling. In comparison with the others this one seems to lack just a bit of the same definition and crispness. Although they all have a similar texture, in this piece the texture feels just a wee bit dominant. See what you think.

I love art that keeps me coming back, and these entertaining and impressive paintings do. Lovely work!

    Cheers, Dom.

You're quite correct in seeing the Tom Welling as less crisp. I tried experimenting with adding some grain, and I accidentally saved the file so I couldn't undo it. I didn't feel like repainting.

As for Non, it's because Jack O'Halloran is pretty much a caricature in reality. There is a fair bit of exaggeration, which you can compare to the reference: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jABtgdtdxbc/Tw6S4i57xhI/AAAAAAAAAv0/ZQGnpTHWpbs/s1600/Non-movie.jpg

These are very cool, em... I think they all look good, but think that the villainous trio a the top would be my favorites so far.

Em... you either do not sleep, have no children or a job or have three arms. Stop being so prolific, makes us all look bad. Great work.

I've said it before on FaceBook, but I'll say it again here, this series here really speaks to my inner geek. Great work, Em!

Nice stuff Em.  Your Terence Stamp as Zod is my favorite out of the bunch. You captured his icy glare perfectly. The expression on Ursa, particularly in her eyes makes

her seem more innocent then not to me. I think I just picture in my head her eyes being more sultry. Either way I'm nitpicking and they all look fantastic.

Thank you everyone for the comments.

To unintentionally prove Joe wrong, it's been a couple of months since I've found time to do anything for this series, so I'm now way behind. Luckily, I have over a year to catch up.

Here's the latest - John Haymes Newton, the original Superboy in the late 80s/early 90s TV series:

Great, Em. Should I assume Gerard Christopher is coming soon?
