Re: April 2012 - MYFX Monthly Challenge - The Sky Harbour - FINALS

    1. Vinnnie - I like everything about it - idea, colors, lighting, many sketches including the rotor and ships. Well done!

    2. Tallasis - nice, clean and simple sci-fi mood

    3. Midscrawl - this harbour would be a place I'd like to visit for sure if it would exist. Only I would like to be on another "ship" on my way there. I wonder how they fit in that small shed in case of a bad weather conditions :)

    Edit:

Vektor - misfortune it is, obviously you have spent a lot of time on your entry, it is very good. What about to have a clock showing GMT on ImagineFX home page or forum or somewhere? Especially becouse of BST - british summer time, that makes it a bit confusing for someone living on the other side of Earth. I tried to google gmt and although you can find it, still it might be a bit tricky.

    1) Vinnnie - Well-executed artwork and great design.

    2) midscrawl - Well done, dreamy feel, but the shadows around the piers flattened the structure out for me. Great job overall.

    3) nigelgoh - A nice different take, whimsical and colorful.

I used an online GMT converter at the outset of the contest to make sure I knew exactly when the deadline was. Unfortunately, the converter does not account for daylight savings time, and I was under the incorrect assumption that DST is in effect in the winter, not the summer, when it is actually the other way around. As a result, I thought the deadline was 5 PM local time when it was actually 4 PM. Unfortunate, indeed, but I'll know better next time, I guess.

    My votes:

    1) Vinnnie

    2) Midscrawl

    3) Lemmikron

Vektor - sorry to see you missed the deadline. You did an amazing job.

Octobull - I think you missed the deadline by about 30 minutes. But you also linked your wip's wrong and would have been disqualified anyway.

My advice to EVERYONE is don't wait until the last minute to post. If there's something wrong with your wip links or you don't know for certain when the deadline is, post some time in advance so you have time to make corrections. After all, a monthly gives you about 30 days to work with, it's a shame when people leave things to the very last minute and then get disqualified...

you may have forgotten about daylight saving time here, the time i closed off the challenge was at 5 past midnight in the UK so you were too late.

As Voluspa says though your wips were wrong and you would have been disqualified.

I was actually wondering about that for the last weekly challenge as well... because according to the link below, UK daylight savings time is not the same as GMT:

    http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/

The deadline clearly states it to be GMT, so both Vektor's and octobull's entries should be just within the deadline.

    My votes...

    1) Nigelgoh So fresh it tastes like orange juice :)

    2) Vinnie Love the concept and the 'aged postcard' feel.

    3) Lemmikron harbour as compass is cool and who can dislike a flying elephant :)

@Vektor, shame on the DQ but you have a really nice piece there for the portfolio. That counts for something.

    (1)   1  Gaung:   What made you think of flying over the mountains? And your sky harbour looks like a buddhist pagoda or religious shrines.  make me think of the Himalayas.

2   Midscrawl:  It was so hard to pick my first.. Minis tirith in the sky!!!    love the light and shadow. The detail is fantastic.

    (3)  3   Lemmikron or : again too hard to choose. Just noticed the points of the compass in the harbour structure

that damn BST time - i wish this site had actual time of posting - i still think octobull was out of time (and would be disqualified for incorrect wips anyway) but i can't work out Vektors time of posting? I *think* it was still 5 minutes too late?

Midscrawl - Amazing amount of detail on this piece.

Nigelgoh - Love this environmental concept look.

Si - Again the detail on the buildings stood out for me.

Shame about Vektor i think he would of won this.
