Yeah, after sleeping on it, those windows look every bit as awful as I thought they did last night. Gonna have to do something different there.

Vektor, I think if you remove some of the saturation the windows would look fine?  Just too much as they distract from the rest of the image.

I thought I could shortcut the windows by just painting them outright, but I've often read that it's better to build them up in layers, focusing on interiors, lighting and reflections separately, so that's what I'm doing now.

Fabulous scene so far Vektor. I just got Internet back after moving house so once again I'm not able to finish a challenge I start. :( Will be back later to review more works. Good to see people using 3D models in their compositions.

beowolf_mn, thanks for the comments. I think you're right. The landscape version does get us closer to the details. So Here's where I'm going with this pic.

On your own pic, I think the lack of shadow or blending tones may be hindering the feeling of depth but you may be just going with the flat colours as part of the comic style.

My 3rd WIP decided to add SCALE into the picture :)

Okay, I think this is going to work for the windows. Still need to tweak the ones on the shadow side a little and get that shade of yellow closer to orange than green. I love my Cintiq tablet but color matching can be a little tricky sometimes.

My task this afternoon is to basically finish off the outer docking ring and then move on to final details like people and additional airships tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully I will finish this thing in time.

hey guys, some really nice pieces developing in here :) been a while since I took part in one of these because I've been busy at uni, couldnt miss out on  this theme tho! I started with a quick composition blockout..

next I played around with the overall colours and light direction in the scene, as well as trying to flesh out a decent start for the sky in the background, since I wanted this to be a featuer in the scene....

then its time to start fiddling with details!

After much fiddling in the fore ground, and some tweaking in the background, my piece is pretty much done! I decided to leave it for the night and look at it with fresh eyes in the mornin...

My second WIP - linework in photoshop! Sorry for such a late update. Was rushing for time so I decided to just post the WIP together with the finals.
