I've been meaning to have all my stuff in one thread here for ages, now seems like as good a time as any to start it. Here's the early stages of a couple of ideas I have. The first one is Mercy again, based on this pic I saw of Summer Glau (which I also posted in my sketchbook thread).
Not sure what I want her to be wearing yet, though I have a couple of ideas. Here's one of them, her standard battle dress thing:
(Berettas are really f-ing hard to draw at that angle, not for the first I wonder why I don't just have my characters use Glocks :P)
Next up, a sketch of Riddick. I've been wanting to do a Pitch Black drawing for ages, but never got a solid idea down.
I want to post the reference I used, but if I don't go now I'm going to be late for work. More to come later :)
Yeah, I messed up the perspective on the nearest one at least. I think the further one is alright though. They're slightly longer than normal anyway, because they have muzzle brakes on them. Another thing I didn't have time to say before was also that her arms are a little too long (taking into account the perspective, both wrists should be a little above her groin, currently they are both slightly below), and her abs don't follow the curve of the rest of her upper body. Thanks for the praise though, I know I do a lot better when I use refs, and I use them now whenever I can find one close to the pose I want. This was one of those cases where I saw the pose first, then wanted to use it in a picture :P
Anyway, the other thing I never had time to post, the Riddick reference. This is it (apparently there are precious few hi-res pics of him that aren't screenshots from games).

Have to agree about the guns, Philby. I too thought of Desert Eagles when I saw them. (due to their length) But you actually have them squared more like 45's, then Beretta's too. Beretta's are more rounded, which can be more challenging to draw as well. ... Color version is looking pretty good, btw. :)
That's what I meant about them being hard to draw, because of the rounded shape. I'm working on improving it, since I erased them to adjust the length of her arms anyway, but most likely it'll be easiest to correct mistakes when I'm doing the digital lineart and I can zoom right in on them.
Here's some more costume ideas. First up, she's wearing a semi-transparent top like in the ref image, and a big black leather coat.
The next one is her wearing biker leathers, which I've drawn her wearing in the past.
Finally, the Jackie Brown tribute suit. For me, it's between this and the battle uniform at the moment. Or I may even do both.
Optional sunglasses in that one, though I could add them to any of the ideas.
Anyone got any preferences from the ideas so far? Or even want to throw an idea in themselves?
I did plan to work on Mercy some more, but I got caught up with Riddick instead. I moved bits around to get him looking more like the ref, and then more or less just dove in with colours and so on.
His jaw looks wrong at the moment. Or maybe it's his mouth. I'm not sure, I need to mess with it some more I think. It's kinda hard, I always remembered Vin Diesel having quite a defined jaw, but he doesn't really. Which of course calls into question why I did such a bold line there :/
Everything looks great so far. the eyes don;t have any structure, though. You need to define the structure of the eye to some degree to make them look good, other wise they will look like two crayon drawn shapes on a head. Yian 2012
I'll be working more on the eyes as I paint the picture anyway, the pencils were never intended as more than a sketch really.
I've been working on Mercy's badass walk since then anyhow, so here's the progress on that.
I attempted to improve the Berettas, but I don't think they've changed a lot :/ I'll fiddle with them in Photoshop. I'm also thinking with this that I'll make it into a mock comic book cover, with a title and logos and stuff.
I won't get started on why I'm up at nigh 4am doing this when I could be in bed.
Is it me or are her eyes too far apart?
Oh yeah, and I've been trying to come up with a surname for Mercy, and last night I had the idea of Tarantino or Rodriguez, after the filmmakers. I'm pretty sure I want her name to to be something with that kind of sound to it, something Italian or Spanish. I'm not sure yet either if Mercy actually is her name or if it's short for Mercedes.
