Ok. 2 quick doodles but option 2 on the right is the preferred choice.

I love this challenge, even if I did go for nearly the same general pose as Doctor Dark.

My Rocket Girl is a Soviet babe from the Fifties, named Ivana Blastoff.

aocdb - Your totally right, the pose is pretty boring.  I really like how it's coming tho so need to put my thinking cap on to make it more interesting. Thanks for the input tho.

Loving all the early drafts so far, can't wait to see the finished images.

Second WIP, just blocking in some colours.  Realised she wasn't too sexy in the first sketch so changed a few things.

Still not sure what i'm going to do to make it more dynamic. Also not sure whether to go with moonboots or heals.

As always, help and crits welcome.

    Some feedback, first:

em... - Nice doodles with a n "old-style" wibe to them. I think I prefer the first one with it's bit of humour. :) Hope we'll get to see more soon!

carl666s - Nice sweet pose, but I can't help but feel that the outfit is not very "50's". With regards to moonboots or high heels, I actually did some googling on 50's shoes for my own drawing and I don't think they had moonboots yet in the 50's. Most pinups have high heels and if women back then wore boots they apparently liked the cowboy style best...

DoctorDark - I prefer the one on the right as well. Looking forward to more wip's!

Smolin - this pose does seem popular, I wonder why? Angel Looking forward to seeing how these similar ones will develop since everyone has their own particular style. But but but - how can a girl named Rita be named Ivana!? Surprise

Thulsa - I think your babe has a sweet face but she seems a bit top heavy (and I don't mean the bosom). It seems to me that her torso is a bit large and her legs maybe a bit short (or maybe the foreshortening just doesn't read too clearly yet?)

Disco Matt - Similar pose again, but I'm already loving it. Looking forward to the next wip!

And now to my own: I decided to change the arm under her bosom so that it reads better. I never quite got the whole squished up pose right, anyway. I also added the spacerat (or possibly a genetic experiment involving rats, octopi and slugs) and a bit of a background. Not sure all those planets/moons will remain, but it seemed like something should fill out all that empty space (if you'll pardon my bad pun)

Carl666 - you mentioned borrowing a pose from an artist you admired and I was curious about said artist so I did a google image search on his name (Martin Abel). I soon found the image you said inspired you and I have to say I'm very disappointed to see that your "improvements to make her sexier" between wip 1 and wip 2 is basically a trace of the original image. When it comes to pinups, the same poses tend to occur time and again so the borrowing of a pose doesn't bother me, at least not in this challenge. But tracing or copying very closely, that does bother me. You should never rely so heavily on one single reference that your work merely becomes a copy. I really suggest you rework your entry. Chances are that, unless it gets disqualified, nobody will vote for it anyway because they won't feel you deserve the votes...

well...Decided to not do the Riding the rocket pose as it seems bit popular so ive tried do something else...more basic kind of Pose with a Rocket jet pack. Going to have it blasting behind her and Smoke blowing up at her feet, possibly a planet in background. Had decided to keep the pic tightened up on the Rocket girl, theres a chance i might pull back and do full body...Ill decide later... Heres the initial pen drawing scanned in. Hopefully rework 2mor...Its Paddies Day, Im Irish and i have a pub calling me :)

em... Great concepts. I'm a sucker for the "oops!" style pinup poses - combination of funny and sexy always appeals. But the second is a classic, too, and so well structured. (Big help I am...)

Voluspa: I like the figure so far, but the composition is leaving me a little cold. I think examining the relationship between the three elements and how to structure the image to make a strong triangle between your focal points would really help (rocket, Rita, slug).

DoctorDark: I liked the other poses you had, but the design on that new one is great.

ThulsaDoom: Great! It feels really authentic so far. I agree with Voluspa regarding the proportions, though.

DiscoMatt: Fantastic. Can't wait to see more. Love the pose, the scene, and the proportions on the figure.

    Carl666: Voluspa said it all.

Mariahsalberg: That's excellent. She's got a Barbarella vibe about her.

Did some more on mine last night, working out color & costume.

Wow, I actually drew from that picture (no tracing, honest), but didn't realise that I had made it so exact.  I totally agree that it is way too close to the original and withdraw it from the contest.

Hopefully i'll have time to get another done for the closing date.

Initial Colour blocking. All liable to change of course. Still pondering a background of some sort, thinking if i do put one, it'll be some simple and iconic. Anyway, now to try paint it more...St Patricks day hangover being pushed aside... :)

Re: MYFX Challenge #270 - Rocketgirl Rita - WIPS

Thank you Smolin. Yours is great, love the sense of comic to it! Realized that mine is more of the 60´s than the 50´s,so I'll do some changes for that. Later, when the kid is asleep. Will post some comments later too..

EDIT:Wow Voluspa, before I just took a quick  look at the poses, but know when I looked closer I see the similarities in the bg as well. The ball mine is standing on refers to a sci-fi movie I saw a long time ago, where a bath ball was the alien "monster":) So I'll probably keep that, but maybe there will be other changes..
