I probably have a rather limited grasp on what makes up a 50's pinup style, but I'm basically thinking Elvgren - the sweet innocent girls that go "oops" and 50's style fashion, so it influences my feedback, but here goes:
1) Thulsadoom - I still think her physique is a little blocky for a pinup girl, but the final rendering of the image and in particular her skin is so excellent and together with her pose and expression, she gets my first place.
2) Smolin - coming a very close second because I love it. It's got the oops, even if it's perhaps not very sci fi (more military, in my eyes). It looks great. That matters too!
3) em... - Really captures the fun, the opps, the Elvgren style, but she also reminds me of Amelia Earhart in that outfit, so smolin (I think it was) may be right about the 30's vibe.
Very close on em...s heels follow SonofWolfHound - You really captured that old time star quality but it feels a bit too unfinished to make the top three. I also think that the placement of her left leg makes her pose a little awkward. I think it might have worked better if we saw the whole leg in front of what she's sitting on.
Others, in no particular order;
Guang: I like the finish on her suit and helmet - you managed nicely with the transparency, but I think the pose feels awkward (even though similar to em...'s) and I'm not really getting "my expected 50's pinup feeling" (for lack of a better expression)
Hendryx: Fun idea, well done - she's got a great face, but I think it's a little more comicky than I'd expect for the challenge (I guess that had comics in the 50's too, though... hmm...)
Maria: I like the outfit she's in, though maybe there are a bit too many flash patterns around her torso/shoulders/upper arms. Nice touch on the legs and boots, though. Love the bubble gun :)
sHuff: Sweet pose and I think it works well with the 50's and the sci-fi theme. The shading, especially on her torso and arms, could have used a bit more work, particularly along the edges. Also, I think she deserves to make up a somewhat larger part of the image ;)
DoctorDark: She's got an interesting face and a cool outfit, but all the colours are kind of taking away from HER, so to speak, making her less pinuppy. (Again, also more comicky than I guess I expected for the challenge)
aocdb: It's a sweet girl, with a great hairdo, but I'm not seeing anything sci-fi about her except the background. She looks like a ballerina, and I also think it looks odd to have her sitting like that with so much negative space underneath.
Kodabble: It's a nice idea with potential, but I'm not getting that "fun" vibe that old pinup images often had and so it doesn't really capture that 50's feeling.Perhaps with a different facial expression, you'd come closer to that.
And to everyone who gave their girls a fishbowl helmet, I have to ask: How did they get their heads in there!?
j/k
I'm sorry I didn't manage to finish my own in time, but I'm glad to see so many entries this week and of such great quailty - I had a really hard time deciding, between my top four in particular.
