    Re: malo's finished stuff

@ Mike - Thanks a bunch, pal!! Yeah - was a bit influenced by his awesome drawing style:) Unbelievable how simple but effective his strokes are!!

@ zeichenwut - Thanks so much, ma'am:) And thanks for getting back to me with the scans. Much appreciated! BIG HUG!!

So - I was ask from a buddy of mine if I could do a book cover for him. The theme was not really in my comfort zone, but I enjoyed painting it. We both agreed to keep a more rough and sketchy look…
and thats what I came up with…

    version 01

    version 02

and some fun stuff I started yesterday…
    called Crow's nest :)

    Thanks for watching :)

just a warm up - focusing on mood and colors…

another one from today. Still struggling with creature design - so I decided to put my hands on it (again and again). Not sure why - but those things are pretty hard for me… at least - I learned something. And as usual - C&C are much welcome.

    cheers

    *shudder*

Well I like your female creature, even though she creeps me out! lol! I love that she is not over the top frightening, but a rather more quiet, sinister force of fright. Her exagerated forehead, and full black eyes, with that smear of blood on her mouth does the trick. Oh yes indeed. Love her skin tone as well.

I am also really drawn to your Crows nest piece. Do you have a "bird" brush? or are you creating those little buggers from scratch?

    Re: malo's finished stuff

Fantastic updates. I really love the Crow's Nest. It's so perfectly constructed, with the wires & birds & peaked roof, and that sliver of light all reinforcing the central axis, and the backlighting throwing everything into shadow. Awesome.

I can only echo Valerie regarding the creature: she has a subtle creepiness that's all the more chilling for its restraint. Latest landscape is gorgeous, too!

Absolutely amazing artwork. Im totally in love with your environment designs. What a great inspiration. Thank you for sharing this. Looking forward to more stuff.

P.S. I just can believe what you can do in a time frame you mentioned. Way to go.  Level of detail is phenomenal.

    Re: malo's finished stuff

    Wonderful work.

The image of the dark eyed woman communicates so much. It's very haunting and feels like she is approaching the viewer. So much mood and history in an image is great work, after all, artists are meant to be communicators.

Immersive paintings like these are the reason I went into art in the first place. Exellent.

You're welcome, malo. Great updates. The cabin in the mist is my favourite of the lot. Positively creepy. As is the black eyed lady.
It's not about perfection, it's about improvement.

@ Red - Thanks so much, ma'am :) Glad you like her! Was a lot of fun to paint one of my teachers (years ago) :p Yup - I have a bunch of bird brushes, but I also paint that buggers from sketch - always depends on my mood and the time I'd like to spend:) Should I share it?

@ Smolin - Thanks a ton, mate!! Much appreciated!!

@ Jose - Thanks my friend!!! Like your new stuff a lot!!! Keep pushing:)

@ GhostImage - Thanks so much for your kind words!!! (blush)!

@ Domtopia - THANK YOU!!! Yup - we are. But sometimes we got misunderstood - but that the way it is!! We are just showing our emotions and experience trough a sheet of paper and a pen. The rest will be up to the viewer:) Thanks again!!

@ zeichenwut - thanks again!!! Schreib dir bald zurück - bisschen stressig hier :)

OK. Nothing special - just another test I did…
It seems they like it so far and therefore - expect a bit more in the future.
    Hope you'll like it
    Cheers

    Re: malo's finished stuff

    Pleasure as always Malo.

Yikes! I'm not sure how well I would do in a class with a super creepy teacher at the helm. LOL! ;)

Well Malo, they do say that "sharing means caring". LOL! :) I for one, would be interested. I always do things from scratch, but it is soooo time consuming! Lately, I've been trying to challenge myself to create paintings more quickly.

Love the lighting and the color palette on your latest btw!

    Re: malo's finished stuff

Another stunning set Malo. The only problem with this one is that I can't decide wether I am attracted to, or repulsed by, the "vampire daughter" painting. It's haunting (just like her Mum) but absolutely beautiful at the same time.

Do you combine photgraphs with your hand-drawn paintings? The lace is brilliant but stands out as being just a bit clearer than the rest of the image.

    Re: malo's finished stuff

@ Domtopia - Thank a lot for the kind words! Much much appreciated!
Well, I do use sometimes photos as a ref or to add a bit of textures. most of that images are hand painted and just added a photo for texturing and to get a bit more structure / details :)

Another sketch from that kind of series…
sort of amale version. Any suggestions are very welcome :)

    Cheers

    Re: malo's finished stuff

Nice updates my friend. ... As to your last pic above, it definitely has a more masculine feel to it then the others above. But at the same time, still retains some of the feminine feel as well? I may be wrong, but believe this may be due to the short & narrow nose, along with the full lips that is giving this feel? ...  Not sure why, but this last one also has a slight neanderthal feel to it for some reason.

    Re: malo's finished stuff

I agree that it might be a bit androgynous (but then vampires often seem to be portayed that way) - I definetaly perceive it as male though. I'm no expert, but I don't think it's the length of the nose or the look of the mouth. If you want more male-ness to him, I think you could possibly add a hint of more (wider) jawline and also possibly define the ridge of the nose more, but above all I think you could work on the eyebrows. For a stronger masculinity they could be made heavier and more pronounced, but either way I do think they look a little odd. Small crit in view of all your amazing work Malo :)
