    em...'s 2012 sketches (Ian Curtis - 11th November)

I did used to have a sketchbook somewhere on here a while back, but I thought I'd start a new one for stuff done this year.

First up is a very quick caricature of the European Council President, Herman Van Rompuy. I thought he looked a bit like the Grinch, so there's a bit of Chuck Jones's classic animated version in here:

    Thank you both very much.

Here's something from the paintover thread, where Domtopia was looking for some help on an image of Batman and Alfred in the Batcave:

    Hey Em...

Your Caricature sketches are always great, nuff said really.

Here's a few questions which should be fun:

    1. What has been your least fav caricature that you have done and why?

    2. What has been your most fav caricature that you have done and why? (it had to follow on from the last question)

    3. And who is the hardest person to caricature? ya know, the one that made you go, 'God DAMN it!!! why won't you work hand! why? tell meeee!!'

Looking forward to more Big Smile

    Disco Matt:

It's difficult to give definitive answers, because there are a lot of factors.

Possibly my most disappointing (as opposed to least favourite) caricature was my first attempt at Hayley Atwell - I wanted to do a really good job, and I didn't. I've done a far better sketch of her since.

My favourite early caricature was Daniel Craig as Bond. Not only was I very happy with the facial features, but the hand and gun came out possibly better than I hoped (which is very rare).

Hardest. Sandra Bullock & Johnny Depp. Nobody can caricature them well. Nobody.

    Re: em...'s 2012 sketches

How long have you been doing caricatures? You mention Daniel Craig as an early one and I remember it, so I guess you haven't been at it "forever" like I kinda thought Stick out tongue

Reg. Sandra bullock I don't think I have ever seen a caricature of her - maybe everyone who tried was too embarassed by the result to show it off? (Or maybe I just don't see caricatures too often unless they're posted right here under my nose.)

    Re: em...'s 2012 sketches

Barring a few done many years ago, I've been doing them for just over 4 years (I just looked at the date on an early one of Ron "Hellboy" Perlman, and it was from February 2008).

Daniel Craig was done later in 2008 (October or November):

And here's my mediocre Sandra Bullock:

Rubbish Hayley Atwell vs better Hayley Atwell:
