Hi everyone! It's my first time on the forums and first time participating in MYFX!

If I'm not posting things correctly, please let me know...

Here's my first WIP... A blind wedge-tailed eagle who nonetheless has powers of sight. I'm not sure if the composition is working, we'll see where it goes!

Gnuchi... Looking good my friend!! Great idea and even the sketch looks great! I look forward to seeing more. My contribution is of a blind archer. I'm struggling with the tree. Any tips?

    farseer

Somehow I can only post images as respond to an empty post by myself... :( anyway

Another step ahead. Refining some stuff and coloring. Still lots of work to do, especially on her face.

Re: February 2012 - MYFX Monthly Challenge - Farseer WIPS

time to throw myself into this then

still sketching and figuing out what I really want. No turtles it seems but maybe it'll come later, but for now I'll keep a more futuristic twist on it. It's time I get my head out my ass and start drawing something else than animals. don't have a single complete drawing of a human since.. well 2009..

Domtopia: Thanks! Maybe make the tree fade a bit more into the background? I think it's a little too dark and draws your attention away from the archer, who looks great so far!

Here's my next WIP... got a basic color scheme. Still trying to figure out how to make the composition better...

gotta say I love your piece Gnuchi, the colours really make it draw more of that mythical theme into it.

    here is my 2nd wip;

still unsure if she is going to have something above her (i.e some sort of crown) I tried a few different takes but it seems to throw of the balance

Re: February 2012 - MYFX Monthly Challenge - Farseer WIPS

I'll try that Gnuchi! Thanks for the feedback! My wip isn't going too well, so i will not show what it looks like at the moment. Instead i will wait untill it looks a little better...

Your work is still looking good. A blind eagle is a great idea and it already looks solid and interesting. In terms of composition, what i would do is make sure that any shapes that I form are complete ones. In this case because the eagle has one solid line forming the back of its head and another forming the base of the picture, to complete the triangle concider a linear object that will complete the shape, ie. one that runs from the top of the head to the bottom right of the picture. I hope that made sense!

Forming complete shapes like this helps. I like the trees in the background too. It will be interesting to see what you will do with them.

    Thanks again for your reply!!!

Quite a bit of progress to day.

Everyone else seems to be getting on well - some good compositions.

This is where i'm up to at the moment. Please give me a little feedback guys and goils!! I am a bit aimless at the moment as to what to put in the background!

At the moment i am playing around with the idea of giving her moss matted drealocks and/or mossy skin. Let me know what you think....

So many cool ideas and great artists here!! :)

    Well...

I got at couple of hours to sit down with this and...

I changed the composition to get less 'empty space'. I also reworked the dragon and the dragon rider.

Of course newbie as I am I've gotten inte details too soon and had to discard them.

And also... crits are most welcome!

    Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Domtopia: I kinda like the open space around the archer, since we're looking at her from a low angle. Maybe some very distant mountains or interesting cloud formations? I also like the idea of moss in her hair :D
Mercurycat: Your background looks awesome! And the detail on the guy's hand holding the bowl is fantastic... It'll look great if you use that level of detail on the rest of him.
segujo: Looking great! I feel like the left side is a bit empty... Maybe some more rocks, or you could continue the pathway out that way? Can't wait to see your next update!

Here's my 3rd WIP... I adjusted it a bit, cropped the top and extended the bottom a bit more. I took Domtopia's advice and put some darker trees in the bottom right to complete the shape. Those feathers are going to kill me! I'm also having a bit of trouble on getting the shawl thing to look right... any advice on that would be great!

Cool, I'm glad my advice made some sense!! Thanks for the feedback Gnuchi. I like your ideas and am in the process of researching some forms and shapes that might work.

Your eagle is looking ever better! The eye has really worked, as has the area that surrounds it. You have definately achieved a convincing cataract look, and judging by the way you have tackled the tiny feathers around the eye, I imagine you will have nothing to worry about when tackling the other, larger feathers. Plus, I would say do not worry about the shawl too much. It's early days yet, but it might look good if it was bit tattered and torn. The eagle could then look as though it had earned those cataracts!

This is my latest update. As you can see, I have added some details to her hair and skin to give an overwhelmed-by-nature feel, but I'm a little worried that I'm over working it. Any advice will be well recieved!
