Due to the overwhelming response to the limitation of the challenge, i have changed it to be more open to everyone's liking.(and its only October 31st) My apologies for making things so restricted.

    Hurrah, three cheers for Bergy!

Mmmm now what am I going to paint? Aw heck too much choice...naw only joking!  It's brilliant to have the wide scope.

I'll try a few different ideas then settle on one.

Nice to see ya on board Eagle. The more I thought about it and the influence this film had on artists, there are so many elements available to do, So it made sense to leave it more open.

On the weeklies, I say leave 'em tight and just draw what you want anyway. The scarecrow brief said full length, but it'd didn't work for my idea so I cut his legs off... the art should dictate where you go. Every illustration job is different, some have tight briefs, some encourage improvisation. You have to make it fun for yourself!

well that's not strictly the the idea of the brief Arthur, but if you want to go that way then you obviously can. What people wanted was to 'pretend' they'd been given a brief from a possible employer, in that situation you would have to meet the brief, if they said full length and you cut the legs off, you wouldn't get the job. Same idea when people vote, if people are being tight to the brief then you risk not getting votes.

However I can tell that the main reason you take part is to have fun and draw some things that you wouldn't normally, but i just thought i'd explain the reason for the tight brief, and i hate saying that too!

Re: November 2011: MyFX Monthly Challenge - Blade Runner - WIPs

Oh, I fully understand that, but I'm not particularly worried about votes. I'm just saying that there's no point blaming the briefs being tight or loose, because it's only limited by how you want to approach it. Sure, it's nice to get the recognition of your peers and a spot in the magazine, but enjoying what you're doing comes first for me.

Plus, no one sticks to the briefs really, they're just subtle more about it... How many of the current wips have a scarecrow looking straight at the viewer? How many will hide the feet in tangles of corn etc, Lol. So really, we all cheat to some degree.

I take your point, though, about people wishing for more realistic briefs. That said, it wouldn't be unheard of for artists to be asked to illustrate a book cover based purely on the blurb from the back of the book, so you can still throw in realistic briefs that have a little more room for interpretation (The Metal cover was a great example of this).

Anyway, you're doing a great job with it!

    Cheers,

I've always wanted to see a remake or a sequel/prequel to Blade Runner. One of the BEST SCI-Fi's out there if not the best. I didn't even know it was on the list to be made....where can I find out more about it? BTW...I very much and appreciate comments and advice on how to improve my work on here. This very much includes what  I entered for the Death comp. A for the BladeRunner Topic...man....Great Topic and yes unmissable but also a hard one...at least for me. There are some really good artists on here that are great at illustrating this genre. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

There've been various plans for a sequel/prequel bouncing around for years. Announcements are made at various times (including one last August), but so far it's all just talk (which is cheap). When something actually gets greenlit, I'll actually pay attention. Whatever happens, it's incredibly unlikely to be a remake - because what the hell would be the point of that?

Besides, Ridley is arguably not yet finished making the first one... :D

I was re-reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? last night, and I'm thinking of maybe tackling some characters... pulling more from the novel and certain characters that were cut for the film, like Irmgard Baty. It would be fun to draw Roy as described in the book, even though Dick thought that Rutger Hauer was absolutely perfect for the role.

Re: November 2011: MyFX Monthly Challenge - Blade Runner - WIPs

Dave, is that book worth reading? I've always known about it but never actually read it. Should I?

Just to clear things up...is this comp. about coming up with ideas for NEW illustrations from D.A.D.E.S. ? or illustrations from the original?

I thought R. Hauer was perfect for that role. that last scene with he and Ford on the roof...I often quote it mentally to myself in a philosophical manner when life gets me down funny enough. Beautiful when he let the dove go...very strong symbolism and dramatic lighting. Again one of the BEST Sci-Fi movies ever made. I actually thought Hauer out acted Ford in his scenes with him.

So yeah...where are we drawing our inspirations from exactly?
