Re: MYFX Halloween Challenge #252 - The Scarecrow - Final

     1. Riox, that really creeps me out! It has both the psycological and fysical to scare. Would have liked more drama in light and/or colors..

    2. DaveB. Love the details in colors, how it connects with the rough strokes, beautiful as always. It contains all the elements one would expect. But hes not very scary to me, feels like a strong wind could blow him away:)

    3. Hendryx, well thats something to look up for, it could happend! Cool  and scary.

Evil, very original take, like the bizzarr details!

Indiobd, classic halloween, very well performed and cool!

Sam, like the sin-take, but somehow it doesn't come thru to me.

Atrhur, very dramatic and well performed, but somehow the house feels most interesting to me, maybe  the other elements are a little to strange for me.

Zephyr, feels really like a brain ghost to me, cool!

Zink, nice to ad the victim, but the bg kinds of ruin it to me.

Mhugo, beautiful light and like the interaction with the crows, but it doesn't connect to me.

Mainframemouse, cool concept, would have liked to see it done.

Sorry for the crankyness, don't know if its because I haven't finnished my morning coffee yet, or King Crimsons more elaborative "music" in the bg or YOU GUYS DOING IT SO DAMN HARD FOR ME TO CHOOSE! Anyway, good job everyone!

    Fantastic work everybody!

Really cool entries all around.  Good luck all.

    1. indiobd - Great silhouette and back lighting.  The dismemberment was tastefully done :).

    2. Hendryx - The story, style and color all add up to a really engaging piece.

    3.  Dave Brasgalia - I may have try out ArtRage. I really like the painterly feel.

    Honorable mention:

Mhugo - Really like the energy and the feel in this one.

I am genius in my own mind... it's in the minds of others that I find my greatest idiocy. :)

Re: MYFX Halloween Challenge #252 - The Scarecrow - Final

Wow, great turn out and some really excellent work.

    My top 3:

    1. Mhurgo - Superbly executed and has a wonderful muted pallet. Fantastic work.

    2. Riox - The pose makes it for me. A good dose of humour with the horror (and nice job on the subtle lighting!).

    3. Hendryx - Elements of it look a little rushed, and he looks a little awkward on his feet, but kudos given for taking the concept out of the box and still delivering a nightmarish scarecrow!

ER - Nearly in my top three, one of my favourites of yours. I think you nailed the character, but I wasn't a fan of the blood.

Indiobd - Nice image, my only crit would be the leading arm and leg which look a little out of proportion with the rest of the character (that said, perspective on people is damn hard...)

Samthedespoiler - A really bold image and nearly in my third spot. I really like the look you went for, but I think this effect works best if you illustrate it traditionally. The beauty of Frank Miller's work is his brush use, particularly when going back in with white paint to being the image to life. It's that organic line work that would benefit your image IMHO.

Zephyr A - another nice image. I like the character and it's great you already have your own style of painting, I think it's just the composition that didn't particularly inspire me.

Zinc - Decent effort, but feels a little rushed. The shadow placement may need a little work to keep it consistent.

Dave Brasgalla - I'm a huge fan of your work and especially the stuff you do with art rage. This one has the lovely traditional-esque brush work, but it wasn't dark enough for my personal taste (I know your not big on the whole death, doom and gloom schtick, lol).

Mainframemouse - Nice rendering and it's great your learning, just looks a little unfinished?

Thanks for the comments and look forward to the next challenge!

1: ZephyrA: I really like the palette and the feel of movement from the figure.

2: Hendryx: Nice take on the scarecrow idea and a nice, brooding tone.

3: Dave Brasgalla: Just awesome in it's simplicity, but I didn't think it captured the dark mood quite as well as it could have.

Great work from everybody else as well.

Re: MYFX Halloween Challenge #252 - The Scarecrow - Final

Hey guys, thank you to everyone who voted. It's really does mean a lot to me. Sorry I didn't manage to vote, but I'm currently on holiday for my girlfriends birthday.

Some quick mentions about peoples great work.

Mainframemouse: Hey, great image, but I would have liked to see it finished off more.

Mhugo: Hey Mhugo, I love your image, I would have definitely had you as my 1st place. Great texture and sense of movement.

Hendryx: Yours would have been my 2nd vote. I think the creepy stance really work well and the eyes on the floor are the cherry on top. Fantastic mood and lighting.

Dave: Yet again you have a really strong image. The brush stroke effect looks brilliant and the composition is also great, the barb wire really leads the eye in.

Zinc: Nice character, very eerie. I would have liked to see more of a scene around them like an alley of something.

ZephyrA: Nice design on the scarecrow, the vines look sweet. I thought you would have won this because it's a great original design.

Arthur: Wow, I love your image. The image as a whole is fantastic, wonderfully rendered. I would love to see more images like this.

Sam: Nice take on the theme liking the Sin City twist on it. You've done a really good jb with it.

Indiobd: I love gore and dismembered bodies so yours is automatically awesome. Also really nice lighting and rendering.

Evil: Hey Evil, great original image that I've come to love about your work. I think him could have done with a little more work but that's just my preference.

Thanks again to everyone for the feedback and the votes.

Thanks everyone. First sorry I didn't get time to vote. Riox well done on winning.

I'd like to have done a lot more on the background montage but I really wanted to get something posted.

I'll try skipping sleep next week
