    MYFX Challenge #245 - 2012 - The End - WIPs

    Welcome to challenge number 245 Don't forget to cast your vote in the previous challenge while you still can. Feel free to offer suggestions for future challenges themes (see link below).

    2012 - The End

    Brief:
  We have all seen disaster movies about the end of the world. Your job is to depict a snapshot scene of an aspect of it.

    Description:
 This is quite an open challenge, this could be simply a shot of the Earth showing the reason for it's demise, an action shot of a ship being swept into a city, a lava threatened house, etc. The choice of scene is yours.

Deadline:

 Midnight (GMT) on Wednesday 14th September (this is Wednesday night, Thursday morning for those that need clarification). There is a 5 minute grace period allowing people to get their posts and links sorted. A moderator will then post a list of valid entries after checking links and voting will begin until the following midnight. Crits are welcomed during the voting process.

    Post all comments, crits, sacrifices, and all WIPs (required for entry) in this thread. You final entry should be posted in the finals thread:

    Final

    Brief rules and additional info:

 A minimum of 2 WIPs are required in addition to your final entry. Links to these should be posted along with your final entry in the finals thread. A link is provided below to details of how to do this. You may be disqualified if you do not post WIP links correctly.

 All artwork must be the work of the entrant, and completed within the time frame of the challenge. You may only enter 1 entry per challenge, and may only cast 1 set of votes during voting.

Please keep entries and WIPs below 500k and a maximum of 1000 pixels across. Larger files causes problems for all users, especially those on slower connections.

Moderators monitor the voting in these challenges to combat cheating and maintain fairness. We may discount any vote we consider suspicious, and will disregard any attempts at sabotaging the voting, or in any way screwing with these challenges.

    I can't resist this, I know it's unfortunately not fantasy art, but a guy can dream that one day it'll be a thing of the past:

    Re: MYFX Challenge #245 - 2012 - The End - WIPs

    I'm sure this is entirely impossible... but if the world comes to an end, it would be nice to float in space on pieces of rock, hoping to come across someone else and put those rocks together to build a new future...

    @aocdb

    LOL! It would be nice for that to be a thing of the past!

    @mariasahlberg.com

    Interesting start! I'm really curious to see where you take it from here. Loving the red and orange tones contrasted by the black, classic. :)

    Well I couldn't resit this one...

    "All we could do is watch helplessly as Planet X arrived and collided with our moon...bringing an end to humanity."

    Been drawing desert environments for the past few days so I thought I would put my *cough* "skills" to the test...
    Just trying to work out the composition of the piece and lay down the colour scheme

    Just slowly progressing... changed the layout a little... did a little work on the background and the girl's face

    hope you like the invisible sketch (coming up this afternoon....) - was thinking of a figure looking out of a glass wall to see a rain of fire destroying the city he lives in...going to take photo refs of that this weekend

    @bergy - yep, that'd spell the end of a world allright

    @mystaia - always good to have some hope left when your world got blasted away..nice and cute

    @spudonkey - heh yea the balloon makes a pretty fun contrast with the nuke up front :P

    Don't you think orchestrating the end of the world just so you can take reference shots is a bit counterproductive? I mean, where will you post the final, then? Stick out tongue

    Re: MYFX Challenge #245 - 2012 - The End - WIPs

    lololol having some special effects for that would be crazy! unfortunately the refs will be for the glass wall....much less interesting  - going to the art gallery, and they have this glass "tower"/atrium that has an awesome view of the city..in fact they have a bunch of interesting spots in/near the gallery...going to have to pick only one >__<

    @HLG - oh no, same idea but still different, go ahead! thought of the rain not as the initial stuff that heralds the end, but as something that happens once the cataclysm is well on its way..okay now I really need to do a sketch
