The Deadly Sin

Deadline:

Midnight (GMT) on Monday 28th February. There is a 5 minute grace period allowing people to get their posts and links sorted. A moderator will then post a list of valid entries after checking links and voting will begin and continue until midnight (GMT) on 7th of the following month. Crits are welcomed during the voting process. Toward the end of the current challenge a new challenge setter will be randomly chosen from those taking part in the WIP thread to set the nex monthly challenge, so keep an eye out.

Post all comments, crits, and general discussion, and most importantly all WIPs (required for entry) in this thread. All entries should be posted in the finals thread:

Brief rules and additional info:

A minimum of 2 WIPs are required in addition to your final entry. Links to these should be posted along with your final entry in the finals thread. A link is provided below to details of how to do this. You may be disqualified if you do not post WIP links correctly.

All artwork must be the work of the entrant, and completed within the time frame of the challenge. You may only enter 1 entry per challenge, and may only cast 1 set of votes during voting.

Please keep entries and WIPs below 500k and a maximum of 1000 pixels across. Larger files causes problems for all users, especially those on slower connections.

Moderators monitor the voting in these challenges to combat cheating and maintain fairness. We may discount any vote we consider suspicious, and will disregard any attempts at sabotaging the voting, or in any way screwing with these challenges.

Hey guys, hope you like the challenge.

This is something I've always wanted to do ever since I saw the movie "Se7en". For those who aren't familier with the Sins, there are 7 to choose from:

Gluttony

Greed

Sloth

Lust

Pride

Envy

Wrath

You can interperate these however you want, also the sins have always existed (and always will) so there open to all time periods.

Also feel free to take as many of the sins as you wish

My personal opinion is that the only deadly sin is sending spam mail. Not sure how to illustrate that one though, so I guess I'll have to go with one of the traditional ones Good idea Riox Apart from Se7en, who hasn't admired and been inspired by Martas take on all the sins?

Daily Drawing Theme

Well, here we go... I'm starting out with something revolving around the sin of Pride.

Thinking about all those, shall we say, over-exuberant conservationists who will stop at nothing just to say they saved some endangered animal or something, with very much a "ends justify the means" sense of self-importance.

 

Yes, I do believe his head is not proportionally-correct, and this is (obviously) a very rough rough. :) Any thoughts or crits welcome, however. Should I go more of a cartoonish direction with this, or do you think I should push it the other direction, toward more realism?  Assuming my limited skillset allows me either choice, of course! :)

Voluspa: Glad you like the theme, Marta's images had actually slipped my mind when thought of the idea I'd also just watched se7en haha.

Nicosstaff: Look for to those WIP's

Chantika: Congrats on getting married and I'm glad you like the theme.

JBatchelor: Great start, very nice take on the Sin. Personally I think you should go more towards a cartoony feel. It will create an interesting contrast between the dark gloom of the sins, and the cartoony viberant colours of the image. Great start!

Right I have made a start. I've just been playing around with this idea for about 1.5 hours. It's a basic idea and it probably wont be my final image but it's just to get the ball rollin.

I've based this image on the fact the sins are often linked to colours, and animals too. For example, Envy is associated with green and the dog.  The idea is that the stronger the Sin becomes within a person, the more it begins to bring the Sin to life in it's animal form (if that makes sense)

Anyway heres the WIP, it'd be great to know what you all think. Should I stick with this idea or drop it?

Aww CAT ! 

Nicosstaff: Haha I knew choosing that dog would bite me in the arse. It's supposed to be a small horrble dog haha, must be changed!

Right, as I said earlier I've just been playing around with this idea of the animals and the Sin becoming alive. Now I've worked a couple more quick ideas out and it's starting to gain my interest. Still don't know if I'm on the right path, we'll have to find out.

Here's the other 2 images I've worked up if anybody is interested. Red is Wrath (Sorry about the anatomy ), Yellow is Greed.

Im fancying a bill pile of blood drained corpses with a few vamps skulking around and a vamp couple being all lusty and greedy.

 

gonna rough up some wips tomoz got some tats to design first gargh.

Right I have decided to go a little further with the Greed image because it had the most interesting composition. I've just started working in more colours and introducing a scene. This is the last WIP for a while cos I'm away this weekend.

Riox - loving the frog, cant wait to see how this one turns out.

 

I was thinking greed with this wip.... she is kind of a black widow bride and her boquet is made up of arms from her dead husbands...

 

some greed... maybe a bit of lust, pride and envy.. Im leaving it pretty open to everyones interpretation but my start point was definatelty her greed and gluttony...she is a larger size and curvy :)
