    Sketchbook

(Not the Autodesk one) Though it is a pretty good painting app if you can get around the design of the interface. It's a little tempramental when saving giving force close errors. If you click wait it will save but is just a little slow!

    Draw(er)

Don't bother as it's just a clone on Sketcher, a badly made one at that! There are other clones out there that are just as bad lol.

    Scribbler

Another app with a strange interface design though once around that it's quite fast though a little limited (like a lot of the apps I've tried)

     Renaissance master Drawings

Not a paint/sketch app as such! More a very good sorce of inspiration. As the name implies it's a small collection of Drawings by the renaissance artists and well worth a look!

    Re: Android paint apps?

I've had that Sketchbook app (not the Autodesk one) installed since it first appeared. I don't use it because it doesn't actually work. None of the buttons can be clicked on, and mostly it just force closes. I've only kept it around in the hope of an update that actually made it work.

There's a few Sketcher style apps. One that is interesting is Magic Prints (think that's the name). Like Sketcher, but a fraction faster as far as brush response goes for me. Has fewer brushes available, but it does also have the option of multiple radial strokes (not symmetry though), and brush opacity as I recall. There's a virtually identical app from the same developer that doesn't have that option called something like Paint Brush, can't work out why he has 2 apps that do the same thing.

That Sketchbook app actually runs quite well on my tablet Big Smile (it's just the slow "sometimes crashing" save problems that let it down)

My Android Market has stopped downloading Sad it starts a download, displays the download arrow in the taskbar for a few seconds then stops and get's no further. Sad

    Re: Android paint apps?

Interestingly, I'm trying out a custom firmware for my tablet running Super Eclair, and that Sketchbook not only works properly (as well as some other apps), it also turns out to be fairly good too. Shame about the obscure icons all over the place, but other than that it's ok. The Autodesk one would be great if my tablet was fast enough to run it properly.

    Re: Android paint apps?

    Strangely since my last post

sketchbook (alt) is now constantly giving Force/Close messages! Tongue Tied

Sketchbook (pro) works very nice on my tablet but I hate the auto color picker (with a vengence) wish there was a way to switch it off?

And my Market still wont download! Oh and someone has mashed together a Eclair/Froyo mix that is running on my Tablet ( not on my tablet! On other ppl's tablets of the same make/brand/specs. Confused ) I still have good old boring 2.1 lol Sleep

Have you tried clearing the cache and rebooting? I had that problem occasionally when I first got my tablet, but it would fix itself with a reboot.

    Re: Android paint apps?

Yeah that's what it was the Cash needed spending!

Found another good app (switches tablet on to find out what it's called)

    Magic Doodle Premium

Very competent painting/sketching app with lots of custom brushes and a very nice colour pallette selection menu, groups of colors like: skin tones, acrylic, marker and many more.

It also allows you to input the specific color numbers rgb/hsv or hex. Also has a grid feature and playback of your painting.

    Another one not mentioned:

    Andrawing (standard and pro versions)

This one is a little different though still quite good. The diffrence is in the initial menu options Kalidescope/kids/draw/draw on picture. Kalidescope is a novel way to sketch but I'm not sure it has many applications lol.

Kids is for uh kids (not tried it)

draw and draw on picture are identical other than the latter loading a picture to paint on. As for options there are a range of options including text, clipart lol (Quite good clipart) A basic but functional colour pallette.

I have an Acer A200 Icontab with Android 4 & Sketchbook Pro. But I dislike using my finger. I did purchase a Targus stylus but don't like it for sketching. Any recmmendations on a stylus....

hey kenmo! long time no see, hows things?

i'm the same as you, i've got the targus for drawing and it's quite rubbish. Someone here said they use the bamboo stylus, but i've looked at it an it's pretty similar to the targus so i don't think i'm going to bother with it, i wish they'd do something with a nib!

The Nomad brushes are quite a different experience... I really like mine. They have a "mini" version, too...

    Re: Android paint apps?

The Nomads look really cool...and are truly the only unique solution for painting on a tablet with only capacitive input.

Unfortunately the nature of capacitive input requires a larger surface area than that of resistive input or an active pen. It's really not because they can't detect a smaller contact area....but rather that they have to use a larger area to prevent extraneous touches from being identified as a desired touch or button press.

One rubber tip stylus that I was going to check into before I bought my Lenovo tablet was the Pogo Sketch Pro....designed to be more like a paint brush I think I might have used it myself.....had the Lenovo not come out when it did.

    blows dust off the thread.

    one word:Adobe Photoshop touch

    ( ok maybe four words)

its uh, Photoshop for android. needs custom brushes but otherwise a very competant app and free if you purchase a Samsung galaxy note 10.1 :D (you could just purchase the app if you have a tablet it will run on :-P )

    Re: Android paint apps?

Okay Ed...since you resurrected this one:

There's a reason Adobe Photoshop Touch is NOT up there....okay only because this thread is older than that....but even if that weren't the case I would have serious misgivings recommending it to anyone. Sure it is Photoshop for the Android platform...but it doesn't behave like it. I bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 a few weeks ago and so have it with my tablet. It's generally okay....but I find myself thinking that they just wanted to throw something out to compete with Sketchbook Pro as it seems in several areas that it could have been better. The UI is usable but not as intuitive as they think it is. Seriously... they put all of the cropping, editing, warping, gradient and text controls under the ampersand icon, why would I even look there for cropping?

There are other issues that I have come across since getting my tablet but I haven't spent a lot of time with PST....but one glaring problem I have discovered is that it can't seem to tell the difference between when you are using the pen or using your finger. No...I don't mean that it doesn't recognize the pen...but rather if you select one or both options under the brush control pop-up where you can tell it to use pen pressure for size and opacity, if you use your finger to then paint with...you get neither...as in nothing shows up at all if both are checked. Now of course you would more likely be using the pen and so this would not be an issue....but it's called Photoshop TOUCH, it should know when I'm not using the pen (since the tablet itself knows when it's docked) and adjust accordingly. Now I recall when I first opened it that it asked about using the pen for input....but c'mon folks...this is an option that can never change? Anyway...more to come later.

    Re: Android paint apps?

Sure Photoshop Touch is very basic compared to its desktop sibling that stands to reason given the platform its running on. I agree they could have done better and a redesign of the layout would be a good place to start a update. as for competing with SB pro there seems to be no cropping, editing and no pen operated brush size.

SB works in portrait only and PS in landscape only, neither company has made the perfect mobile paint app.

PS should have been called PS mobile then noone would think they can get brush size or opacity with a finger, thats a limitation of all android tablets not PS.

edit: Actually other than the release of PS touch there seems to be very little activity on the android paint app scene.
