January 2011 - MyFX Monthly Challenge - The shape of things to come - VOTE OVER!

Happy new year and welcome to the January challenge. Don't forget to cast your votes in last months challenge. This months theme, to be interpreted as you like, is

The shape of things to come

    Deadline:

Midnight (GMT) on Monday 31st January (this is Wednesday night, Thursday morning for those that need clarification). There is a 5 minute grace period allowing people to get their posts and links sorted. A moderator will then post a list of valid entries after checking links and voting will begin and continue until midnight (GMT) on 7th of the following month. Crits are welcomed during the voting process. Toward the end of the current challenge a new challenge setter will be randomly chosen from those taking part in the WIP thread to set the nex monthly challenge, so keep an eye out.

Post your final entries in THIS thread (comments without entries - or votes during the voting process - will be deleted). All other comments and all WIPs (required for entry) should be posted in the WIP thread:

    http://community.imaginefx.com/forums/331336/ShowThread.aspx#331336

    Brief rules and additional info:

A minimum of 2 WIPs are required in addition to your final entry. Links to these should be posted along with your final entry in the finals thread. A link is provided below to details of how to do this. You may be disqualified if you do not post WIP links correctly.

All artwork must be the work of the entrant, and completed within the time frame of the challenge. You may only enter 1 entry per challenge, and may only cast 1 set of votes during voting.

Please keep entries and WIPs below 500k and a maximum of 1000 pixels across. Larger files causes problems for all users, especially those on slower connections.

Moderators monitor the voting in these challenges to combat cheating and maintain fairness. We may discount any vote we consider suspicious, and will disregard any attempts at sabotaging the voting, or in any way screwing with these challenges.

     Final

    DIVINE APOCALYPSE

An unknown entity emerged. Every living thing on earth who witness the surfacing of this entity was astonished. After showing itself, it starts to enunciate his vision to the world. Some, where shocked… some were amazed…

The Entity's vision was to recreate a new world with 1 law and 1 religion. Everyone who agree will have a chance to live in this new paradise but everyone who disagree will witness and suffer the pains of the crying earth.

Nations who disagree formed an alliance to extinguish this entity but we don’t know how strong and how big this entity evolved… The upheaval of our world will remain until we find our salvation in the hands of the unknown…

    Title:  Soldier of Hera

Concept: In the future, modern religion will break down.  In its place, the ancient gods will once again rise to worship and armies will be raised to serve them. Wanted to create something futuristic, but with a retro vibe reminiscent of the recruitment posters from WWII.

Click to enlarge...This is the gaming system of the future, no handheld device. LOL not really. :) I changed my mind so many times on this one but the idea was to use the "shape" of the woman of the future and attempt to make her as pretty as my skills would allow. I had fun!

    WIP 2

I went for a future for a different past, my idea for this one is that:

An undead army is consuming all life in the world, slowly spreading the destruction and chaos. Powerful Undead Magi atop of there deathly towers summon unholy storms to raise the dead and shroud the coming terror. This is a glimpse of that nightmare...

    Hope yaz like it :)

good luck everyone, this was a fun challenge!

So i started with woman vs machine, nature vs industrial then I ended up with a huge body of water sweeping through the city and a rubber duckie......

My entry is a more optimistic outlook. I figured what would things look like if we all left earth is a huge Ark Ship and re-established the old countries. So I have UK tower 1 and Terminal 5 and a very clean look. If we have managed to get this far, then clean energy and such like would be second nature. Hope it all works and that the scaling is okay.

My first go at a competition. Thanks to all who gave feedback... looking forward to more fun in the future!

My take on it comes from being a dad... kids have an almost endless fascination with "big machines" ... even if they don't fully understand the implications of those machines and the uses they're put to. A father must balance encouragement of curiosity, all the while knowing that at some point, the innocence will someday give way to that understanding.

For any curious, my tools for this project: Art Rage Studio 3 Pro, Photoshop CS4 for finishing work, Wacom Intuos 4 tablet throughout.

    "Ready to Deploy"

    Idea:

The shape of things to come will be soldiers that are not trained from the population, but specially bred in-vitro.  Their growth will be accelerated with hormones and gene therapy and all their training will be virtual.  One they reach the desired level of maturity and training, they will be stored in special holding chambers until they are needed in combat.

She ran away and has been wandering around in the storm,

now she arrives in a strange dark city and the shape of things to come starts to reveal.
