Hey guys... I figured segways exist, and since I road with one in an elevator this summer, I'm assuming that they are fairly agile. Stick out tongue

My idea uses a sphere as the wheel to allow additional flexibility...

    Quetzal:

I really like the style of the drawing, Dave! reminds me of the tron lightcycles and of those cool asia record covers, almost abstract.

Thanks, Queztal! I'm certainly no Syd Mead by any stretch, but obviously I had him in mind. I think the lightcycle evocation is mostly because I was working from a series of ovals. Strangely, the more I look at this design, the more conventional it seems to me - especially given what certain technologies are making possible.

I've found out some really interesting things doing this challenge: the fact that conventional motorcycle frames are sometimes not even used now (!) and also the fact that, apparently, one cannot copyright auto and motorcycle designs. Yes, Sonofwolfhound3, some of those unicycle designs exist as working prototypes. I know that at least Bombardier have one...

Here's the latest... I'm pretty busy at the moment, so it's not as far along as I'd like... I still have many small details to add:

This thing's supposed to be electric, by the way, building on existing zero-emission racing technology. As one blogger put it: "...electric motorcycles offer specific advantages over their fossil-fueled equivalents, namely torque-on-demand, zero emissions and the complete lack of excruciatingly-hot exhaust pipes."

    "Who you? Me Max... "

on an offside note, found amazing free paper models  of bikes in the net, including akira´s... and the ones by yamaha are unbelievable.

Hey Sonofwolfhound, he he you may be right. I didnt realise until you said it but there's some similar ish designs in attack of the clones xD  . . .  ah well. My bike doesn't have guns  . . .  though that could be fun!

Your dublo bike is looking pretty awesome by the way!

In the mean time, cheers for looking at the old blog! And thanks for your comment on my showreel. Still only in my first year at the mo, so hopefully next summer ill have a reel of animation from grad films ill work on and the like. fingers crossed.

Howa bout you, you do art in work as well as at home, or is it more of a really addictive and fulfilling pastime?

    *Edit*

I answered my own question :p had a look at your website!!! Geeeeeees!!! I really love how much texture you get into your paintings! I wouldnt know how to begin! Faves for me where deffo the life model, really well painted but captures a lot of energy at the same time. And also the guy on the horse was pretty epic!

    All the best

Ok I think that I'm just about finished unless there are any problems that i haven't spotted.

V2 Interceptor bike.  Near future, so mag wheels and electric hydrogen powered power plant.  By this point all police forces are sponsored (hence the logo to the rear).  Not too far future so kept the rest as logical as possible- I hope

Nice one Sinistral, only crit I would have is the highlights running down the length of the bike on its 'back' look a little defined, I would thinf thet should be softer than that, but thats being picky. Otherwise I love it! Loads of great work here.

Second Wip - basic forms and colour: now the fun bit starts with the shadows and highlights, materials etc!

Think I'm nearly there - any crits would be real helpful right now, gonna let it fester till tomorrow then revisit it - other wise I'll be calling this my final.

apart from tiny details, this is prolly going to be my final version - it also changed from the V2 interceptor to the √2 interceptor... all those maths must've leaked in...

With all the weird and wonderful machines in here mine is looking very normal and boring (and not very advanced and futuristic).

Heimdayel- 'tis the power of the blue!  I really like the slightly retro look to the styling on your bike.  Minor points: not sure where the rider puts his/her feet and do some of the 'pipes' cross around each other?  Would make steering tricky

Munkydog- the shading looks good and a nice futuristic design, Does seem a little berfet of instruments or controls at the moment though.

Shaggy- love it for being totally left field concept

Banj'- teriffic line work.  As for not being futuristic or advanced- the brief said near future not far future so just add a blue power sourceStick out tongue You know it makes sense!
