Thanks Alex. I'm currently reading James Gurney's book 'Colour and Light' and it's really helping me think through palette selection. Heh, yeah she does look a bit stiff doesn't she. Maybe I should title it 'Shop Dummies on the Moon?' ;)

Another doodle. I thought I'd try another piece starting in grey scale and adding colours via blending modes (currently a mix of Overlay and Multiply). Not sure if the yellow/gold is too strong or if that's just because it's against the grey background?

I dont think its too strong, I think (like you mentioned), once the background is filled in, and there are some shadows/highlights to offset things it will look great.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments.

I did put some blue light on her back, but I couldn't get it to work so I deleted it and went to play with something else. As I'm working it, I think the image is starting to go a little flat so once I've got all the base colours in I think I'll revisit the lighting and shadows. Unfortunately I haven't had time to fire up the home PC lately let alone do any more work on it :(

Agree, some very nice updates. I was also wondering if you shade your paper you sketch on, or is this something you add after you have sketched it and then scanned it in? ... Just wondering, because I can see a blueish tint to them and I was just curious.

Dave: Thanks for the kind words. The sketches are on plain old white paper, but I photograph them on a window cill so I think the blue tint is ambient colour from the sky. Either that or my doddery old camera is on the blink.
