In need of a fresh pair of eyes please

I have been working on this for a number of days and need a fresh pair of eyes to have a look at her face as one minute it looks ok then whilst working on other parts of the picture the face then dosnt look right, I dont know if it is me and Im just looking way to hard and maybe trying to hard or am I trying to be too much of a perfectionist here. I would love some feed back as its driving me nuts and Ive started talking to myself over this, way more than usual. Crits, tips or anything to bring me back down to the normal level of my insanity would be gratefully appreciated.

The only thing I can see is that the coloring in her face doesn’t match it has a purple tinge while the rest is orangey/brown... but its only slight and helps pop her out a bit so stop worrying lol.

Don't know if this might help your image, it’s not for the face but I got some amazing stock images up in the newly reopened Ulster museum, i think the second one is the bug you painted

Re: In need of a fresh pair of eyes please

To me it's looks like the left side of her face (as we're looking at it) is drooping slightly. I think if you just pushed her features up a touch (all except the eye on the right) it might look better. Of course it also could be that the eye on the right is set too high. I can't make up my mind lol, but that's the only thing that I'm noticing really that's throwing the face off. Hope that helps, admittedly drawing people isn't my strongest point ^^; but yeah, just my two cents :D

Re: In need of a fresh pair of eyes please

It's a very beatiful image! Very classical looking too. I agree about something being wrong with her face though and I suspected a couple of things, so I did a paintover thingy to test it. I *think* I was right, but you judge for yourself. What I did was lower her left eye (our right) and then paint her eyebrow slighty closer to her nose (when I moved the eye, it ended up too far away). I also strengthened her chin slightly, also on the right (her left :P) side. Does it look more like what you were aiming for?

(Edit: I did not fix the bridge of her nose, but it does look a little awkward now since I just copied the eye and pasted it on a new layer and then painted/blurred on top of that)

(Edit2 - besides spelling - maybe I should mention I drew perspective lines through the eyes and through the mouth to check what might be off. They should be parallell or slightly converging, so that's what I went by when I moved the eye...)

Nice collection of bugs Jonny, but the bug I am painting is the Hummingbird moth. I wanted to put in a hummingbird but as its night time I thought the moth would be better suited. (see below)

As for the purple tinge I cant see it Surprise maybe my contrast is set too high , but will turn it down a tad and will try and lessen the tinge. thank you for your input its most appreciated Big Smile

Re: In need of a fresh pair of eyes please

Actually I'd say that the eyes aren't quite aligned correctly.  If you cover half of the face with your finger in your original image it looks okay and when you cover the other side it looks okay but together they don't appear right.  It wholly depends how you want the face to appear.  Not everyone is the same so a slightly higher set pair of eyes isn't necessarily wrong and gives her more individual features.  However I do think her right eye (our left) has too much eyeball showing almost as though popping out a bit. Other than that some very good work and lighting composition.

Looking at the ref, I can see that you captured her quite well. I also have to say (since I don't think I did before) that you did an amazing job on her hand!
