    Sketchstorm #6: Michelangelo master study

    Sketchstorm #6: Michelangelo master study

One of the best ways to improve figure drawing is by copying the old masters. Let's start with one of my favorite artists - Michelangelo. Pick one of his figures and try to copydraw it. Time, media etc. is optional.

Rough ballpoint pen sketch from "Battle of Cascina". Messed up the back, but it'll have to do anyway.

Re: Sketchstorm #8: Rubens master study

Yo mindbender, not sounding daft i hope but who is Ruben?

And i tried to start a drawing of a flower last night and i worked on it for like 3 hours and then when it came to saving i stupidly named the file "lotus.flower" and now i cant open the file as well, there is no flower file type haha.

So yeah talk about a red face, still getting used to photoshop.

Anyways, get me a link and i might draw some Ruben. Needing some motivation the noo.

     Cheers

    Hi there Jack,

glad to see you here - and that this thread has gotten you drawing. Sorry about the flower. Is there no way to rename the file? Hope you'll find a way.

Sorry for not adding the entire name, you got it right, Peter Paul Rubens is who I had in mind. But by all means, feel free to post your "other Ruben" sketch if you want to.

Anyway, here's a great site for master study references (just use the search feature to find the artist you're looking for):

    Web Gallery of Art

Hope to soon have my own Rubens study finished and posted. Maybe you'd like to pick the next sketchstorm subject - it can be practically anything! Smile

    EDIT:

Ok, here's my Rubens pen sketch:

Re: Sketchstorm #8: Rubens master study

Nah ive tried renaming it but cuz I saved it as a .flower imagine then it looks like its gonna stay that way unfortunately.

I did the (incorrect Ruben) drawing in pencil and i did the image below in pencil too. I really need to start drawing etc in photoshop so I can get to grips with it but I dont feel that I have anywhere near the same control and im also adjusting to the whole eye hand co-ordination thing too. Anyways I will get the sketches posted but my bro's mac in going through an install just now and he cant get the scanner to work as he has lost the disc and the driver isnt working so apologies that I havent been able to post anything.

I know your time frame is all out of whack with mine for the 24 hour thing so i dont know if this is right but here goes.

Suggestion for drawing next would be your favourite musician, in action on their chosen instrument.

Gonna try this one in photoshop so I can by pass my big bro and his useless Mac.

    Sketchstorm #9: Your favorite musician

Actually found a good eye/hand exercise when I started using tablet, will see if I can find it...

Never worry about the time limit - you can draw ANY subject whenever you want. 24 hour limit is mostly to assure that we get at least that time to draw before a new subject pops up. Good for my discipline to have a theoretical limit. But - I can't repeat this too much -  main purpose of this thread is to get us DRAWING, and posting our efforts. Big Smile

Great subject, loads of fun. Party!!!

OK, here is a tutorial including that exercise (don't know whether you have to register to see it though):

Well, let's make the next subject official then:

Re: Sketchstorm #9: Your favorite musician

Hey mb loving the portnoy picture but i only have one criticism. He looks a bit old. Although in all fairness I havent saw what he looks like in a while but he is an EXTREMELLY talented drummer. I almost picked John Petrucci for my musician choice. Awesome band.

Anyways, heres the original of the Rubens that I did for easy comparising.
