I don't particularly get much time to do sketching, and to be honest I'm not great at it anyways, but I thought by starting this thread it'd give me the motivation to do more and also give me some feedback on what's good and what's tripe.

This first bunch was done very recently using biro pens; I always find I sketch better in pen because I'm less precious, I know I can't undo my mistakes so I just go with it. Several of them were attempts at developing some characters with the "cuteness" factor - I'm a big fan of Jonny Duddle's work that I've seen in IFX and he always manages to capture this in his character designs, even the darker ones (such as Cirque de Spectaculaire). The rest are just random, whatever-the-hell it turns into sketches.

I figure I may as well post my image for the "Freeze" weekly challenge; personally I feel it's one of my best works, and it's the first complete image I've done with the shiny new tablet that I love so much I'm going to be buried with

ha, some promisiing stuff here but some life drawing or practice from some ref could do you wonders.

The black and white wacom practices are looking great, look perfect candidates to try out the colour layer technique on if you havnt already checked that out.

And what the hell i still havnt tried art rage! need to get round to that...

I keep meaning to find the time to go to the library in my uni's school of art department to grab some anatomical books but I've just always got too many other things on my plate! My friend Joe, an excellent illustrator (check out www.joebamborough.com), says exactly the same thing as you: that I need to do more life studies.

I'm quite enjoying Artrage for doodling, it's quick and easy to play around with and a good alternative to pencil and paper when I can't be bothered to pick up my sketchpad. 

Ok, time for some image dumpage; lot of built up little sketches and whatnot which I figured I'd upload.

First up, a little character design I sketched on an orders receipt at work.
